Operating at the heart of a multi-million-pound global business. Advising on the allocation of resources for brand investment. Working with different functions to evaluate and improve returns. And managing the delivery of consistent profit growth.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
First, you’ll build commercial experience in one of our end markets. Then you’ll have plenty of opportunities to develop your financial knowledge. This could be in Corporate Finance, Corporate Tax, Treasury, Audit, Mergers & Acquisitions or one of our regional finance shared service centres.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Over 12 months, you'll learn trade marketing fundamentals in a field-based commercial role. You’ll also gain experience in brand positioning and authorship, consumer dialogue, account classification, strategy planning and market tracking. This will prepare you for one of the following areas:
Brand Marketing – Discover how brand positioning and authorship fits within the wider creative process as you help develop our campaigns. You'll get to work closely with our agencies. From brief through campaign execution to follow-up brand activities.
Trade Marketing & Distribution – Learn how to work with retail and wholesale customers, market to shoppers and optimise our routes to the market.
Strategy Planning & Insights – Understand the research tools and insights behind our decisions, learn about the competitor analysis that informs our market knowledge and discover the planning processes that keep our brand activities on track.
New Category Products – Gain insights into how we’re developing New Category products as we strive to build A Better Tomorrow by reducing the health impact of our business. Advocate a regulatory approach that puts consumer safety and product quality first. You’ll also get opportunities to work with scientists and regulators to promote and encourage the growth of our New Category products.

You can look forward to a busy year. It takes in a commercial challenge that gives you insights into what a large proportion of our workforce does. And you’ll get to grips with the strategic nature of HR, too. All the while enjoying management training to develop your commercial awareness and leadership skills. Then you'll be ready to move into any one of these HR areas: Generalist, Attraction & Recruitment, Performance & Learning or Organisational Effectiveness.

We have factories around the world making nearly 700 billion cigarettes a year. Not to mention plants making roll-your-own tobacco and oral tobacco products like snus and moist snuff. So, the scale of our Operations is huge. It takes innovative thinking and the latest technology to deliver the best results for our consumers and our business.

You’ll build on your experience from the commercial challenge. Learn about the range of our Operations. And experience life at the sharp end in one of these business areas:
Leaf (buying tobacco from farmers)
Plan (balancing supply with demand)
Logistics (managing supply chain flow and strategy)
Product Innovation (working with Marketing & Sales and R&D to introduce new products)
Make (manufacturing)
Procurement (focusing on innovation, smart spending and quality partnerships)
Service (understanding consumer needs to put them at the heart of Operations; or supporting our transformation in Global Business Services)
In your first year, you'll meet up with other BAT graduates from across the globe for a two-week-long residential course. At our dedicated, world-class learning academy in the heart of the English countryside.

This is designed to help you in three key areas. Building your functional capabilities. Sharpening your commercial edge. And honing your leadership skills. You’ll also get to meet senior managers. Which means you’ll have a fantastic insight into the future direction of our business.
