Keeping the balance in a highly regulated environment

As a Product Compliance Reporting Manager, Francis manages a team that oversees regulatory reporting. When products are launched in various countries, his team provides specific information in order to support the product before it goes on sale. “The package of information we provide is evaluated by the authorities in those markets. As our product portfolio expands across the globe, they’re looking at the information and ensuring it complies with any restrictions or regulations.

Francis’ team was built almost exclusively for reporting on potentially reduced-risk products (PRRP); including vapour products and tobacco heating products. Now, this team includes people from both PRRP and combustible, with each and every member of that team motivated by the responsibility they are given. “The scope of our team’s work has really expanded. We have people who have a lot more experience in the professional world and some who have just recently graduated from university. Everyone is enthusiastic and very motivated. What’s best is the sense of camaraderie and teamwork.” It’s very important that Francis’ team works well together, but also works efficiently – everything they do has a big impact on the business.

“If we don’t do our job correctly as a team, there’s a lot of impact to the business. I’d say that regulatory reporting is a critical part of the business that has to be maintained and we have a responsibility to ensure that this is completed.”

“There’s been loads of moments where I’ve felt proud of my work. And the type of talent that BAT recruits? Highly creative people who are very innovative, inspired and motivated.”
