Using the power of social to connect

As a Digital Content Manager, Joanna is responsible for keeping our R&D team’s social media and website up to date and relevant. Not only does this mean she has to be aware of our latest products, scientific research and technology news, but it also means she has the power to inform our audiences, and to give them a realistic view of our industry. “Making sure that people have the right information is key to what we do in our communications team. It’s important that there’s a company like ours that’s telling people what we’re doing and how we’re changing our industry. Our brand Vype is our flagship vapour brand in the UK and that is partly down to that quality of communication.”

Ultimately, for Joanna, her role all comes down to the people. “Replying to people as much as we can and giving an idea of what we’re doing instils trust. I think people have a specific idea of who we are and we need to make sure that idea rings true. We’re about technology and innovation. There’s a lot more to BAT than people realise and social media is a good way for us to let people know that.”

Even when she’s at work, sometimes it doesn’t even feel like it. Spending time with her team in amazing places makes it a great experience. “Something I really enjoyed was going to a conference in Poland with my team. There were loads of open-minded people discussing nicotine and innovative ways of delivering it. We had an exhibition stand that I helped to run throughout the conference. The whole time, I felt valued, and I was grateful for the support of my team.”
