Feeling supported every step of the way

Marlena is on our Global Graduate (GG) Programme performing within our HR function. It’s her job to help identify and look after our global talent. “I joined BAT a year and a half ago as an intern. Now, I’m working for the regional Talent & Organisation Effectiveness team and the global Talent Brand Management team on the GG programme. During my Masters, I wanted to gain more experience and insights into how HR actually works in a global operating company, which is why I chose BAT for an internship.”

And so far, Marlena has had plenty of opportunities to prove herself: “In my time here, I’ve already supported the preparation and implementation of BAT’s annual Talent Cycle, developed a concept for a new variable pay system, and prepared and supported the Go-Live of a new, worldwide HR system. I’ve even been lucky enough to work in three different countries – Germany, Romania and now the UK.”

Marlena is passionate about taking her learning to great heights and values the support she’s had in helping her become a more knowledgeable professional: “BAT is a company that puts the development of its people at its core. Line Managers motivate their employees to expand their limits and reach new potentials by giving constructive feedback, and by being inspiring role models. During the programme for example, I not only work with different teams and report to various line managers, I also have one constant coach and mentor who I catch up with on a regular basis and answers all my questions, both professional and personal. Together, we identify the training that will best strengthen my development.”
