THE APPLICATION PROCESS

Hiring the best talent available calls for a robust and thorough process. So, it can take up to three months depending on your level. These are the main steps.

1. Application
Uploading your CV and completing our online application form. This is your first chance to make a great impression and share your motivations for joining BAT.

2. Culture Questionnaire
A bespoke online culture questionnaire. Designed to find out whether you share our values.

3. Cognitive Tests
A chance for you to show us what skills and potential you can bring to BAT. It gives us an idea if you have the verbal and numerical abilities to meet the unique challenges of our business.

4. Telephone Interview
This might be a brief introductory chat about the role and salary expectations. Or a longer, more formal conversation with competency-based questions.

5. Leadership Preference Questionnaire
This helps us understand your individual leadership style. From the approach you take in different business situations. To the way you deal with other people at work.

6. Face-to-face Interview
The length and format will vary according to role and location. It gives you the chance to show us the skills and knowledge that make you a perfect fit for the role, in person. It’s also a great opportunity to ask any questions you might have.

7. Assessment Centre
A testing but enjoyable day of team and individual exercises. It’s designed to assess your capabilities in action. It also includes an interview by your prospective Head of Function. So, you'll have the opportunity to find out more about the role, function, or our organisation as a whole.

5. Offer

To support you through the recruitment process we engage partners who have created outstanding tools, which support some of our activities. Some of you will participate in online tests and even video interviewing.

OUR ONLINE TESTS

Why we use it:

We want you to find a suitable job in which you are most likely to succeed. Our online tests use neuroscience, which more accurately assess and predict how you will fit into our organisation.

What it offers you:

An enjoyable experience – the assessment consists of 12 short online games that measure social, cognitive and behavioural attributes that are essential to certain jobs within our organization – they are fun to play and there are no right or wrong answers. A personalised trait feedback report - After completing the games, you can view a personalized report of your cognitive and emotional traits to help you learn more about yourself.

What our Global Graduate Programme candidates are saying:

“I enjoyed playing the games. One of the best parts was being able to download results and have an overview of my performance/personality!”

“We have all gotten used to the traditional numerical and verbal tests which are quite stressful and boring. The new gamified solution is really a step ahead, progressive change which offers an exciting experience for candidates. I even haven’t noticed how time flew while playing!”

OUR RECORDED VIDEO INTERVIEWS

Why we use it:

Recorded video interviews give us a chance to get to know you in a quick and easy way, while giving you flexibility and ownership of this screening stage.

What it offers you:

A high degree of flexibility - You can complete your interview at a time that suits you – no scheduling or travel required. A time efficient process - with a maximum of 5 questions per interview, it means you don’t need to invest too much time in the early stages of our recruitment process.

What our Early Career candidates are saying:

“It was a new experience for me but it was great! I think the automated video interview is an excellent idea. You can be at home without stressing out about the traffic or going late to the interview. You can be relaxed, taking your time to think the answers. Ten out of ten.”

“It was a challenging experience, but I like the fact that you prepare first and get familiar with the process before you commence your interview. Great!”
