The Design Authority is the subject matter expert on the global BI service portfolio and will assume a key role in the global & regional enterprise initiatives. This includes understanding business requirements and designing and mapping the requirements to the BI solution within the established design standards and processes. The design authority will make key design decisions and assuring the quality of the product against criteria of functionality, robustness and maintainability. Advocate of stringent application change control and impact assessment documentation to maintain quality of solution design for the Global and Regional BI solution. The Design Authority may also assume the role of functional consultant and be responsible for actual build and implementation of functionality for enhancements or be assigned to projects.

Key Accountabilities

i. Operations/ Professional/ Business

·         Design Authority for the global and regional BI solutions; they are the subject matter expert in the design and general architecture of such of the BI solution. Adhere to the established design and architecture principles in the area of change management, access control, system administration and authorisation management

·         Design and support the maintenance of application-specific security standards for BI Solutions

·         Provide input and recommend robust solutions to Change Advisory Board (CAB) and Design Reference Group (DRG) to meet business requirements via change management process

·         Act as subject matter expert and focal point to validate and authorise changes to global design and standards

·         Create and maintain repository and knowledge based on global  and regional solutions/ standards

·         Proactively monitor system utilisation to ensure efficient performance and capacity management

·         Responsible for ongoing improvement of design for global and regional solutions/standards

 

ii. Management

·         Keep design documentation up to date for maintenance purposes

·         Apply processes to govern change and to ensure compliance to global standards

·         Adhere to application access, authorisation security and identify management standards

·         Conduct quality assurance on design proposals by design and build partners (e.g. HP, IBM, Oracle etc)

·         Communicate and raise awareness of global and regional design architecture/standards

·         Ensure cohesive working relationship between all direct involved parties in release management (BI-SC, Delivery, End Market IT, Demand IT, third parties/internal team in development of releases)

Contextual Information

i. Context (Specific to Roles)

 

The BI systems will be a key and strategic component in providing key global reports within different functions (e.g. Finance, Marketing, APO, etc.) across the technical landscape. The BI Solution centre will play the critical part in managing the Business As Usual and demand aspects of the BI solution and is responsible for providing the full suite of services to ensure a smooth running solution.

 

To meet this objective, there is a need to have strong design authority presence that will responsible in ensuring that all design criteria meet business requirement and solutions designed are according to BAT standards. The design authority will be the subject matter expert with strong process knowledge and appreciation of business requirements in the context of BAT. Design authorities will be the advocate of stringent change and access controls to ensure that the quality of the system design is maintained.

 

Design authority would need to have good interpersonal skills as they will be the key resource in engaging with the business and providing and attaining useful information to produce a solution that will meet the business requirements. Designs should also meet all stringent audit and security policies.

 

ii. Knowledge, Skills and Experience

·         University Degree, preferably in IT systems with architecture and software development

·         Minimum of 5 years of experience of SAP related knowledge with strong understanding and experience on SAP BI

·         Experience within a Global/Regional multi national company operating a multi SAP R/3 or Business Objects landscape is an advantage

·         Sound knowledge in processes is preferred e.g.  supply chain, procurement, manufacturing, finance, human resource, etc.

·         Good understanding of system integration across multiple platforms

·         Relevant experience in project management or ITIL (Service Management lifecycle)

·         Experience in specific technology used in the product especially on BI and ERP (R/3) systems

·         Ensure that all audit and security standards and requirement are comprehensively met
