Senior Legal & Regulatory Engagement Manager

Due to a promotion of our current employee, we are looking to find our new top legal and regulatory affairs professional.


As Senior Legal & Regulatory Engagement Manager you are leading a team of 4 while reporting to the Head of LEX Central Europe North Area (based in Hamburg). You are responsible within BAT Switzerland for all legal and regulatory affairs, external engagements, communication & CSR activities.




LEGAL TASKS (with 2 direct reports):

  • Corporate Law: Provide timely advice to Marketing and other functions as well as to provide appropriate training with the objective of being proactive in the protection of the company, its assets, its reputation and its employees. Provide counselling to all other functions in respect to contractual matters.
  • Labor Law: Maintain optimal communication and support with HR on all employment law aspects
  • Litigation: Manage litigation and administrative proceedings


REGULATORY ENGAGEMENT TASKS (with 2 direct reports):

  • Regulatory Affairs: Monitor and interpret the regulatory environment in which BAT Switzerland operates to ensure proper and timely compliance. Favourably influence the regulatory environment to drive commercial opportunities and support BAT’s mid- and long-term strategy. Build sustainable and direct relations with key stakeholders in politics, media and other industries
  • Compliance: Identify the legal priorities and compliance procedures to ensure an internal environment in which the business understands and meets its legal obligations
  • Communication/PR and CSR: Raise BAT image and profile in the public domain and support business objectives through media engagement and PR campaigns. Drive Corporate Social Responsibility agenda



  • Recognized Master’s degree in Law, admission to the bar is a plus
  • Several years of relevant experience in a corporate environment or in a law firm, previous regulatory engagement experience is desired
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in French, German and English
  • Strong influencing and problem-solving skills; ability to work with stakeholders of all levels while always inspiring trust and confidence
  • Capacity to explain highly complicated and technical issues and concepts, including identification of relevant business considerations for decision
  • Ability to understand the needs of the business and express them clearly, concisely and effectively
  • Results driven and continually aware of commercial objectives, with the credibility and gravitas to impress at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate complex regulatory concepts into an understandable format to a multi-disciplinary team
