Providing expert legal input, counsel and materials to support and execute Group legal strategy to inform business decisions relating to Leaf, recon, DIET and nicotine delivery and maximise commercial opportunities, whilst ensuring legal compliance and mitigating business risk within Global Leaf, an above market function

Principal Accountabilities

  • Support Senior Counsel, Global Operations in providing robust legal advice to facilitate our leaf business and manage legal risk to protect the Group's interests and above market entity model
  • Draft, provide and review documentation to support the Group’s plan of domestic and ITT (Internationally traded tobacco), the purchase, sale and delivery of ITT globally. 
  • Participate and engage responsibly with the industry to further the sustainability agenda 
  • Draft, review and, negotiate contractual documentation for the global supply, movement and distribution. Leaf, recon, DIET and nicotine delivery
  • Provide Centre of Excellence legal support to end markets and central functions.

  • Awareness of the financial implications of commercial terms and an ability to assist the business in constructing agreements that meet cash and working capital targets
  • Credibility and ability to engage, influence and manage internal and  external stakeholders, which would include banking partners.
  • Understanding of material bank guarantees in overseas territories and security arrangements that can be put in place to mitigate risk of default
  • Work with external legal counsel
  • Clear and compelling written and verbal communication skills including ability to draft contracts
  • UK qualified solicitor and competent to provide counsel to BAT stakeholders
