BAT is seeking a senior resource, with experience in the development of Automation Machinery and process for high speed manufacture of combustible and Next Generation Products (NGP). The location for this role is London or Southampton, with international travel.

 

BAT’s consumable products are manufactured to meet the exacting requirements of stake holders, be it consumers, shareholders, regulators or society.  We make cigarettes at up to speeds of 20,000 cigarettes per minute, so this is a high precision business that requires exceptionally talented Engineers. We are looking for Engineers with experience in bringing FMGC products to market, who can work as part of a wider Technical team and develop the commercial manufacturing process from Design for Automation (DFA) to deployment in our manufacturing locations.

Key accountabilities

  • Ensure commercial manufacturing capability for Vaping / Tobacco Heating Devices Consumables & Conventional cigarette innovations via high speed automation processes.
  • Accountable for sign off in the design phase that products can meet the consumer, commercial and business objectives regarding the manufacture and supply.  This would include Design for Manufacture (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA) and agreeing budgets timelines and resource allocation
  • Providing input from a manufacturing perspective to Procurement in Supplier Selection – including identifying key technical requirements and Ways of Working (process’) for machinery suppliers / system integrators.
  • Managing external supplier to provide service or complete solutions for manufacturing capability, this includes Request for Information (RFI), Request for Proposal (RFP), supply of User Requirement Specification (URS), sign off Function Design Specification (FDS) and setting out validation criteria for Vendor Acceptance Testing (VAT) and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
  • Accountable for integration into BAT operations which would cover planning, installation and training, spare parts management, CE certification and providing Supply Chain capacity offers for commissioning, qualification and verification of the manufacturing capability.

 

Essential requirements

  • Experience in  senior positions in FMCG, automation machinery supplier or systems integrators.  
  • BSc Engineering degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Manufacturing.
  • Experience in the design, development and deployment of new products.
  • Strong analytical skills in design problem solving for both process and products.
  • Strong and demonstrable network of external prototyping partners in machinery design and process development.
  • Experience in supplier product validation systems and processes.
  • Experience of regulatory compliance requirements for electronic consumer products.
  • Ability to manage relationships with internal customers/stakeholders (e.g. R&D, Marketing, Operations, Quality).
  • High degree of personal resilience, drive and flexibility.

 

Desirable requirements

  • Chartered Engineer
  • Experience in working with cross functional teams in a global organisation.
