Job purpose
Next Generation Products (NGP) is part of British American Tobacco Group, focused on developing and delivering high quality nicotine alternatives to adult smokers in the key areas of Vapour and Tobacco Heating Products. In NGPs, our aim is to provide consumers with a compelling range of inspiring products that drive change. This means developing products that meet consumer needs and, by driving change, will reduce the public health impact of tobacco.
The responsibility of this role is to lead the technical development and assessment of novel and strategic atomisation platforms.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Show technical experience and able to communicate and solve highly technical problems related to mechanics, heating systems and fluid dynamics.
  • Lead specific technology development and assessment workstreams both within R&D and with nominated third party suppliers
  • Translate consumer/business requirements into clear technical specifications for technology development.
  • Review third party design, development, quality/compliance and manufacturing documentation
  • Support solid Intellectual Property (IP) to best protect the product development.
  • Develop strategic technology platforms based on a clear scientific understanding of the base technology and a clear view of the intended application.
  • Lead technology testing to ensure performance meets requirement specification.
  • Analyse data and distil down and present to management team concepts, root causes, solutions, matrices and planning.
  • Lead evaluation and assessment of external technologies as part of ongoing benchmarking.
  • Ensure accurate budget management and tracking for development activities within the assigned responsibilities/projects in the team
  • Escalate risks and issues in a timely and appropriate manner
Skills and Experience:
  • Degree or equivalent in a scientific/engineering related subject. Preferable Mechanical engineering or Physics.
  • Experience in preparing and managing technical specifications.
  • Practical experience in prototyping and testing proof of concept.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple technical workstream in parallel.
  • Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills; ability to influence key stakeholders.
  • Experience of managing suppliers to deliver new products/technology from concept to proof of application is an advantage
  • Knowledge in CAD is an advantage (SolidWorks, ProE, Autodesk)
  • Experience working within an ISO9001 environment is an advantage
  • Experience in project management ideally Prince2 practitioner
  • Base salary from £33,600 per year, depending of relevant experience
  • Bonus target 12.5% of annual base salary
