ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES

This role is part of New Category Research & Development Sub Function.

The role is responsible to lead and support on certain mechanical device development activities in Next Generation Products (NGP) Tobacco Heating Products (THP) Research & Development (R&D) as assigned by Principal Development Manager and Senior Mechanical Engineer.
The role is also responsible for the delivery of an assigned portfolio of workstreams and activities within the THP device development team which requires the coordination of internal and external team members and development partners.
The role holder will also be a subject matter expert within NGP R&D within the mechanical engineering discipline and be expected to coach and technically mentor junior team members.

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR

  • Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with a pool of third-party external suppliers and internal functions such as Manufacturing Innovation, Device Engineering and Quality
  • Provide in-depth, relevant technical guidance to R&D senior managers in area of expertise
  • Work closely with the Principal Development Managers (Device and Consumable), Senior Mechanical Engineers and team members to implement and deliver the THP pipeline through to product launch
  • Lead the development activities for the assigned responsibilities within the team
  • Ensure Design For Manufacture/Assembly (DFM/A) and adherence to product requirement specifications is at the forefront of all design and development activities
  • Support the Principal Development Manager and Senior Mechanical Engineer, where required
  • Ensure accurate management and tracking for development activities within the assigned responsibilities/projects in the team
  • Ensure on time and in full delivery of device specifications for new product and/or product modifications

 

CAN THIS BE YOUR FUTURE ROLE?

  • Are you an experienced user of mechanical design CAD packages such as Solidworks?
  • Do you possess knowledge and experience of Mechanical design in context of handheld mass-produced electromechanical consumer products?

 

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge and experience of Mechanical design in context of handheld mass-produced electromechanical consumer products.
  • Experienced user of mechanical design CAD packages such as Solidworks
  • Experienced in tolerance stack analysis, DFM/A, 3D and 2D design creation, Bill of Materials (BOM) and specification management, verification and validation testing, certification/homologation processes
  • Experience of processes such as Advanced Quality Product Planning (APQP) or similar and usage in context of product development
  • Experience of managing activities at third-party suppliers
  • Planning and implementation skills
  • Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills; ability to influence key stakeholders up to senior level
  • Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical, Mechatronics Degree or equivalent experience
