Global Graduate Programme

Our 18-month rotational programme will have you hit the ground running. Straight away, you’ll contribute ideas in a real job, developing your potential through world-class training, including our two week Graduate Academy (one week in London) where you’ll join up with our Global Graduate community for a deep dive into BAT. You’ll connect with fellow Graduates and senior colleagues from across the globe. Ultimately, you’ll be on track to become a future leader of BAT, gaining essential business and leadership skills throughout the programme. We have reached a key milestone of 18% of our group revenue coming from smokeless products in H1 2024. But what exactly are these new product categories?

Digital Business Solutions

Cutting-edge technological advancements are spearheading some of the most exciting changes in our history here at BAT. With innovation thriving throughout every inch of our business, we’re transforming our industry by offering adult consumers a range of new category products. But we’re only just getting started and there’s so much more to come as we infuse digital within our DNA.

You’ll enjoy having responsibility from day one to key projects supporting our digital transformation. We are implementing cutting-edge technologies across all areas of the business – with your support!

Finance

As finance managers, we don't just set budgets and report results. We’re decision makers and business partners. Operating at the heart of a multi-billion-pound global business. Advising on the allocation of resources for brand investment. Working with different functions to evaluate and improve returns. And managing the delivery of consistent profit growth.

First, you’ll build commercial experience in one of our end markets. Then you’ll have plenty of opportunities to develop your financial knowledge. This could be in Corporate Finance, Corporate Tax, Treasury, Audit, Mergers and Acquisitions or one of our regional finance shared service centres.

Marketing

Our marketing teams work to bring a consistent branded experience to customers the world over. We take on complex challenges and create solutions that are unrivalled by our competitors. As a member of this team, you’ll aim to delight customers, build loyalty and keep us at the forefront.

Across various rotations, you’ll learn from experts in Brand Marketing, Trade Marketing and Distribution, Strategy Planning and Insights, and New Category Products. This experience will teach you marketing fundamentals that will give you an insight into a future role within marketing. You’ll also gain experience in brand positioning and authorship, consumer dialogue, account classification, strategy planning and market tracking.

Operations

We have factories around the world producing traditional combustible tobacco products, as well as new category alternatives. So, the scale of our Operations is huge. It takes innovative thinking and the latest technology to deliver the best results for our consumers and our business.

You’ll build on your experience from the commercial challenge. Learn about the range of our Operations. And experience life at the sharp end in one of our many areas.

Research & Development

We have an extensive scientific research programme in a broad spectrum of scientific fields including molecular biology, toxicology and chemistry. Our main R&D Centre is based in Southampton in the UK, supported by R&D teams based in many locations around the world.

You’ll be at the absolute forefront of our transformational journey. Building on your education and experience so far, you’ll gain insights into how we work with the highest standards on future products and solutions.

Corporate & Regulatory Affairs

Corporate & Regulatory Affairs, CORA for short, is focused on shaping the external environment for us to compete, grow and accelerate our transition to a smokeless world. This involves working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including governments, NGOs, think tanks, scientists, competitors, the media and, of course, our own employees.

You’ll get the chance to shape the future of our business. From navigating the regulatory framework and advocating for THR to contributing into our New Categories growth, you’ll gain crucial understanding on how our business works and learn about our journey towards a smokeless world.

Human Resources

We have 55,000 talented people to look after. And thousands more to attract. So, as global HR teams, we need to be incredibly progressive. We offer world-class expertise and support across Global Talent Acquisition, Leadership Development, Talent Management, Organisational Effectiveness, Reward and Industrial Relations.

You can look forward to a busy programme. Gain insights into what a large proportion of our workforce does. And get to grips with the strategic nature of HR. All the while enjoying management training to develop your commercial awareness and leadership skills.

BAT Academy

In your first year, you'll meet up with other BAT graduates from across the globe for a two-week-long course. This will be your opportunity to understand how our business affects the wider world, while exploring our portfolio of products.

In these two weeks, you’ll learn from leaders, gaining the functional, commercial and leadership skills you’ll need for a future with BAT. The Academy is a great way to build your professional network as you meet fellow graduates and share experiences.

Internships & apprenticeships

By recruiting over 500 interns annually across more than 40 locations and all our functions, we’re creating the next generation of leaders. And together, we’re transforming the way we go to market. We’re looking for passionate, courageous and innovative undergraduates who are ready to take their ambitions global.

As an intern with us, you’ll spend 3-6 months learning how a world-class FMCG manufacturer operates enjoying exposure to senior leaders who will offer advice and could even become your mentor. You’ll be in with a chance of securing a place on our Global Graduate Programme – your foot in the door of our thriving business.

Early Career FAQs

Our programmes each last 18 months and offer a rotational experience every six months. You will spend time in multiple teams within the business function you are placed in.

We offer a rich variety of training, development, and mentoring opportunities to help boost your career. A highlight of this journey is our Global Graduate Academy in the United Kingdom, a 2-week long learning sprint where all Global Graduates from across the globe gather for a week-long classroom training and business simulation.

If you’ve graduated or are expecting to do so soon then please search for opportunities via our search button. Our programmes start at different points of the year depending on location.

Yes. If you apply for a vacancy that requires you to study a particular course, we’ll need to see official confirmation of your results as part of our onboarding checks before your start date.

After passing our screening phase you will be invited to one of our assessment centres, which can take place either virtually or in person depending on location. Across the day you’ll be assessed on a number of individual and group activities. For some opportunities, additional interviews may be required.
