What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?
To support the Analytical Optimisation Team (AOT) in their assessment and technical governance of a global network of internal and external laboratories who provide analytical chemistry services for BAT. Effective collaborator interaction to understand scientific requirements from a wide network of requestors, to facilitate the most appropriate solution either internally or externally. As part of this, liaising with selected external suppliers to supervise their performance, such as through the establishment of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s), regular review meetings and execution of incident reports and CAPA when necessary.
What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organization?
Support for global analytical governance and a facilitator and point of contact for a diverse collaborator base to fulfil scientific requirements and enable projects to move through the lifecycle and meet breakthroughs.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Develop joint operational or research solutions with R&D peers and keeping partners informed of progress through formal and informal communication.
- Assessment of the capabilities of selected internal laboratories who are within scope of established analytical governance processes.
- Lead interactions with peers and collaborators in identification of analytical challenges or performance issues leading to potential changes to plan.
- Analyse technical capability and find opportunities to improve / enhance, including third-party partner engagement opportunities.
- Apply technical analytical scientific knowledge as part of the Analytical Optimisation Team so that methods and processes are understood as part of the bigger picture.
- Establish partnerships
- Provide insights to feed into the direction of planning through application of information management skills to consolidate large data sets.
- Help define new rules for the planning system based on data gathering and interpretation.
What are we looking for?
Experience and Skills Required
- Relevant technical experience resulting in a basic knowledge of analytical techniques (e.g GC-MS, GC-FID, HPLC, pH etc.) and analytical method validation.
- Ability to interact effectively and confidently with internal team members and external partners, to understand requirements, laboratory capabilities and advise on the most appropriate solutions.
- Basic understanding of BAT products and the testing suites that are required for regulatory, quality or product development testing.
- Understanding of the value of analytical data to the business and the context of its use.
- Ability to determine the appropriate level of complexity required to satisfy the different collaborators.
Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required
- Ability to influence and communicate across the team and within One R&D.
- Good communication and planning skills.
Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required
- Professional/academic achievement in Chemistry or a related physical science up to 1st degree level, or equivalent experience.
