What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?
Provide advice to peers, as part of a project team, on the application of analytical technologies. Undertake analytical studies, in support of projects, that are delivered and reported in compliance with agreed technical and quality standards. Support the interpretation of results in respect of internal and external reporting and project decision making.Review technical resources and capabilities and propose technical solutions.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Undertake analytical studies, in support of projects, that are delivered and reported in compliance with agreed technical and quality standards.
- Interpret collaborator requirements, make technical recommendations, and evaluate implementation.
- Provide appropriate support to project teams and external peers on analytical data to ensure delivery of scientific output of appropriate integrity.
- Apply relevant laboratory techniques for the extraction and analysis of trace-level components in complex sample matrices.
- Apply technical knowledge as part of R&D project team in support of internal and external reporting and project decision making.
What are we looking for?
Experience Required
- Relevant technical experience in analytical method development and validation using instrumental analysis techniques (e.g. GC-MS, LC-MS, LC-UV) with associated high-level problem-solving skills.
- Skilled use and understanding of preparative and instrumental techniques applicable to the isolation and measurement of trace-level compounds in complex matrices.
- Evidence of current technical awareness of relevant aspects of emerging analytical science and techniques.
Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required
- Excellent project planning skills with the ability to work in a team environment and independently, as well as the ability to influence and communicate across the team and within R&D.
Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required
- Professional or academic achievement in Chemistry (or a related physical science) equivalent to degree level or above (MSc / MPhil / PhD) and active membership of the RSC or working to acquire.
Beneficial
- Experience in a range of sample preparation techniques and the development, operation and troubleshooting of complex analytical techniques (e.g. LC-UV, LC-MS, GC-MS, TGA-MS, LC-HRAMS) for the analysis of complex matrices.
- Knowledge of gas and aerosol phase emissions and associated sample collection techniques.
- Experience of working in a GLP compliant and/or ISO accredited laboratory.
Qualifying questions for applicants
- Do you have professional or academic achievement in Chemistry (or a related physical science) at degree level or above?
- Do you have experience in a broad range of sample preparation techniques, and the development and application of analytical techniques (e.g. LC-UV, LC-MS, GC-MS, TGA-MS) for the analysis of complex matrices?
- Are you proficient in the use of chromatographic instruments and associated data systems?
