JOB TITLE: Legal Counsel - Leaf
LOCATION: Kandy, Sri Lanka
ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES
In this role, you will be responsible for advising and spearheading compliance at our Kandy site in relation to local laws and BAT policies and procedures.
WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR
- Advise the business on compliance to legal and regulatory requirements
- Management of litigation and advising the business regarding the potential outcomes and repercussions arising therein.
- Ensuring that the commercial legal sphere in the organization is secure which includes the intellectual property portfolio, land portfolio, licenses and contract management.
- Have a thorough knowledge regarding the laws applicable to the manufacture and sale of tobacco
- Assist the Senior Legal Counsel to ensure all legal concerns and issues faced by the organization are alleviated and/or addressed
- Management of external counsels on behalf of the organization including the coordination, correspondence and advising the Leadership in the selection of counsels
- Business partnering with the relevant functions and updating team on latest legal developments.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- 2-3 years’ experience in litigation and court procedure
- Ability to advise the business on any legal concerns
- Proficient drafting, research and negotiation skills
- Analytical and interpretative thinking
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to interpret financial data.
- Strong sense of responsibility and urgency with willingness to grow within the organization
