Role summary
What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?
The Global Sourcing Manager is responsible for the overall performance (Cost, Quality, Delivery, ESG) and the design/execution of the global category ‘Sourcing to Contract’ strategy, specifically:
- Source to contract (sourcing plan, tender, negotiate and contract)
- Spend and compliance reporting
- Commercial risk management
- Contract Management
- Supplier Relationship Management
- Peer group or market network build
The Global Sourcing Manager contributes actively to the development of the Category & Supplier Base strategy on his scope.
What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organization?
Delivering the sourcing strategy as part of the category strategy and ensuring delivery of defined key business targets and supporting key critical issues of the business through a defined supplier management programme
Accountabilities
- Achieve the annual performance objectives on scope, including but not limited to, total spend expenditure reduction (supplier cost reduction and partners/end user spend optimization), speed/time to market, quality, ESG, innovation etc.
- In this regard, define global sourcing strategies for the category to achieve the business objectives for the next 1 – 2 years, supervised on a monthly basis through appropriate dashboards
- Complete sourcing plans in line with global standards and policies
- Lead global and geographic contract discussions effectively to deliver robust terms and conditions that handles BAT’s service delivery and commercial risk and represents value for money
- Formulate for each tender, in strong relation with partners / end users, the 2 major steps of the tender process: sourcing strategy validation (before launching tender) and supplier award
In this regard:
- Agree with suppliers multi annual cost reduction plans, ensuring all performance levers are activated: detailed cost breakdown challenge, offshoring, value analysis, group alignments, benchmarking
- Arrange with the support of the legal teams the contractual T&C to ensure the highest protection for BAT.
- Ensure that the partners define clear and understandable requirements by reviewing scope of works and suggesting optimization where appropriate
- Challenge users on specifications
- Build strong supplier base relationships and handle discussions and supplier selection within the framework of the category strategies and sourcing strategies
- Lead global and geographic supplier management and drive geographic continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers in coordination with business functions
- Supervise contractual performance in accordance with agreed SLAs to identity and resolve issues, advancing as appropriate
- Check at all time the suppliers financial health and dependency; implement corrective actions accordingly (such as substitution plan)
- Ensure the appropriate interface between the Group and suppliers for the resolution of any major “challenges” (quality & delivery)
- Ability to understand and communicate the individual category strategy to internal partners
- Business Continuity plan execution and pro-active risk management
Experience, skills, knowledge
ESSENTIAL
Experience Required
- Detailed knowledge of supply market, supplier capabilities and competitor activity, and encouraged trends at a geographic / global level
- In-depth category knowledge and confirmed capability of applying supplier management techniques to deliver contributed benefits in addition to contracted benefits
- Expertise in successful development of sophisticated, multi-country contracts and agreements
- Detailed understanding of financial evaluation and interpretation of supplier’s records and their key cost and business drivers
- Full understanding of the category total cost model, cost drivers and all factors needed to ensure a robust agreement for BAT (including specification and testing requirements)
- Understanding of the processes, timelines and constraints for the development and delivery of new products.
- Experience in handling sophisticated global and area projects and programmes to improve performance and deliver service
- Sound knowledge of corporate regulations and legislation to ensure the creation of effective group contract.
- Experience in handling large scale, cross-country projects and programs to improve performance and deliver service
Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required
- Knowledge of the Category including the external marketplace, key drivers and levers, supply base and balance of power, supplier capabilities and trends
- Strong Partner Management abilities
- Expertise in negotiation skills and influencing skills: able to influence business partners and suppliers as well as the ability to be assertive if required to ensure compliance to contract
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong digital analytical and numerical ability
- Ability to develop and maintain effective partnerships working across geographic boundaries and functions
- A focus on service delivery and savings
- Preferably IWS / Lean Manufacturing experience
Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required
- Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant area
- CIPS Corporate Diploma in Purchasing and/or membership of The Chartered Institute for Purchasing and Supply or equivalent country qualification or membership would be an advantage
