British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for a WAREHOUSE OPERATIVE (12 MONTHS FIXED TERM CONTRACT) in Southampton

What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?  

To conduct work activities, as allocated by line manager, helping to maintain One R&D’s HMRC Licence (Duty Suspension), ensuring all tobacco control related Standard Operating Procedures are in place and observed at all times including the movement of tobacco across the site; incidences of non-compliance with HMR&C Licence conditions are reported in a timely manner, and all related activities are undertaken, in compliance with BAT EHS Policies & Practices.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure that accurate records are maintained for the receipt & management of tobacco products to satisfy our licence with HMR&C.
  • Routine stock checks are conducted and recorded to maintain an accurate audit trail and ensure One R&D stock management policy is adhered to.
  • Preparation of samples to be exported from site to external stakeholders.
  • Coordinating delivery of raw materials to manufacturing areas from both on-site and off-site warehouse locations, ensuring samples are manufactured to plan.
  • Ensure the correct disposal of all tobacco products is completed with all customs procedures followed and accurate documentation.
  • Continual Improvement: support the development of new working procedures, methods or working practices for management approval because of a problem or challenges defined by management, guidance from Technical Specialists is available.
  • Support/contribute to the generation of external reports and audit records/findings, publications, and presentations.
  • Planning – daily and weekly workload to support current projects/activities.
  • Understands and applies their responsibilities under the EH&S policy, HMR&C compliance, and Records Management procedure.
  • Will coach/train users of the stock management system.
  • Supporting teamwork across the Manufacturing Department is vital to the success of the team and a flexible working approach is required.
  • Support the identification and implementation of continual improvement.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships within and across other One R&D teams.
  • Engagement with external stakeholders.
  • Identify and suggest changes to operating procedures and working practices for subsequent review and consideration.

What are we looking for?

Experience Required

  • Professional achievement in a relevant subject area or logistics experience.
  • Skilled use and understanding of regulatory requirements and controls relating to the movement of tobacco and related materials.
  • Relevant technical experience resulting in a thorough knowledge of HMR&C regulatory requirements, import/export, and internal procedures.
  • Ensuring issues of non-compliance (versus Stock Retention/Shelf-Life Guidelines) are escalated in a timely manner, helping to ensure inventory (warehousing) costs are minimised.
  • Previous experience in the tobacco or a relevant logistics industry
  • Knowledge of IT systems (Lotus Notes, RD Stock, RD Planning, Excel, Word & REES).
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Hold a valid Forklift Truck licence.
