British American Tobacco Costa Rica (GBS) has an exciting opportunity for a Tax Assistant Manager in Heredia
We are looking for an experienced Tax professional and team leader to join our Global Shared Services in Costa Rica. This role will lead U.S. tax compliance and reporting processes for multiple entities, ensuring operational excellence, process integrity, and strong stakeholder collaboration during an important organizational transition.
The ideal candidate brings a combination of technical expertise, analytical mindset, and proven leadership skills, capable of managing complex processes and high-performing teams in a multinational environment.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Ensure accurate preparation, coordination, and submission of tax returns, payments, and monthly reports for U.S. jurisdictions and multiple legal entities.
 - Apply U.S. tax laws and regulations to complex and routine business transactions, ensuring compliance with federal and state requirements, and oversee tax data collection and submission to the U.S. authorities, ensuring timely payment of associated assessments.
 - Maintain strict adherence to SOX and operational controls, ensuring all tax processes comply with internal and external regulatory standards; and monitor and review tax-related activities to ensure tasks are completed accurately and on time in line with Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
 - Identify gaps in efficiency and effectiveness within tax compliance and accounting processes, recommending and implementing improvements. Support the testing and validation of tax and accounting systems to enhance automation, accuracy, and compliance.
 - Develop and keep strong working relationships with key commercial stakeholders, finance teams, and other internal business partners. Act as a point of contact for tax-related inquiries, ensuring clear communication and alignment with business objectives.
 - Provide necessary data and analysis for federal and state audits while ensuring proper tax-related record retention and keeping data well-organized and accessible in SharePoint and other relevant systems.
 - Plan and coordinate daily activities using effective time management principles, providing guidance and support to direct reports. To enhance expertise and performance, assist with recruiting, mentoring, and developing team members within the Costa Rican Global Shared Service.
 - Lead or participate in tax-related projects or other special project assignments and forecasting activities as needed.
 
What are we looking for? 
- 5+ years of experience in U.S. Tax Compliance, Accounting, or Reporting within multinational companies.
 - Proven people leadership experience, including performance management, and coaching in diverse teams.
 - Advanced English (C1 or higher) – able to influence and communicate effectively across global teams.
 - Strong accounting and analytical skills, with hands-on experience in SAP and automation tools (Alteryx, Power BI).
 - Demonstrated ability to self-manage under pressure and deliver accurate, timely results.
 - Experience in change management or organizational transitions highly valued.
 - MBA or CPA preferred, showing strong professional maturity and business acumen.
 - Strategic thinker with focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence.
