British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for a Product Competitor Intelligence Manager in Southampton
The aim of the role is to deliver business relevant competitor product insights in a timely and sustainable way, supported by public domain information and in line with the objectives of our business strategy.
The role requires a self-starter, who will develop competitor product insights via a clear process and can demonstrate the ability to manage both complex technical detail and be able to leverage advanced search to uncover competitor insights externally.
The role requires the ability to communicate effectively to different partner levels in both written and presentation form, supported by strong analytical skills, product development knowledge and ideally cross category experience within BAT or other industries.
Moreover, this role is responsible to expand the capability in line with demand from new categories, ensuring the delivery of scientific solutions that are fit for purpose.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Ongoing monitoring of competitive landscape, to deliver product led insights relating the New technologies & Corporate intelligence into the business:
- Lead the development of actionable insights relating to New technologies to ensure effective decision making by the leadership team in Product and Marketing (Global R&D Leadership, Central SPI, RPCs, Central & Regional Marketing, LEX, Sustainability, Consumer Product Safety and Finance). Ensuring the most actionable insights are delivered to the right function within the context of the strategic business needs.
- Develop annual intelligence plan including all the necessary activities to feed into the Strategic Competitor Report on key competitors twice per year, which involves responsibilities for product attributes information updates for competitor products, competitor innovations updates, market information updates.
- Establish a clear process for competitive product analysis, demonstrating existing processes on PRRPs to ensure consistency.
- Complete the process to deliver the key fact-based reports ensuring that the X functional monthly meetings have the agreed product and market information on time for analysis and recommendations. Lead and co-ordinate the outputs of the monthly meetings and feed this into the IC forum monthly.
- Ensure delivery of key “on demand” reports, based on the established PCI process and agreed tools, of the on-going monitoring process and competitor innovations through the recommendations provided by PCI and other product experts.
- Build and maintain a strong network with R&D Central SPI and Global Product development community. This helps deliver processes, analysis, and recommendations on competitiveness and rival innovations effectively.
- Engage and closely work in partnership with PCI Team Centre of Excellence, as well as with the Global Product Development Community, LEX, Regulatory, Consumer Product Safety & Sensory Teams for the analysis of the impact of Competitor analysis and their Innovations into the Business growth strategy.
What are we looking for?
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the key business activities relating to the composition, manufacture, product design, evaluation of tobacco & PRRP products, electronic devices, and consumer research to meet the desired objectives to provide competitor trend analysis based on expert factual Product recommendations.
- Planning and implementation skills; ability to influence key partners up to senior level.
- Ability to lead a portfolio of projects.
- Either product development / innovation experience, or new product launch management
- Good technical device and consumable knowledge and the ability to translate this to new businesses.
- Product Experience across multi categories and the ability to translate this experience to new categories.
- Good understanding of argument development, marketing processes and practices.
- Science or marketing degree.
