The Director in Toxicology provides strategic, scientific, and operational leadership for toxicological evaluation and product stewardship across the US organization. This role is responsible for setting the direction of US toxicology programs, managing the US toxicology team, and ensuring alignment with the global product stewardship approach, internal standards, and business priorities. As a business leader, the Director will oversee the development and governance of toxicological frameworks, lead high-impact scientific initiatives, and represent the company in external engagements.

  • Lead and oversee toxicological risk assessments and product stewardship evaluations for novel ingredients, materials, and technologies, ensuring scientific rigor, as per the US Product Stewardship Council (PSC) approaches.
  • Lead strategic toxicology programs and cross-category initiatives aimed at shaping and harmonizing assessment methodologies and frameworks, while driving innovation in tools and systems. Ensure future needs are proactively mapped and addressed, delivering scientifically robust, future-proofed solutions in alignment with the US Product Stewardship Council and global stakeholders.
  • Serve as a key scientific advisor and strategic partner to internal stakeholders including Global Toxicology, US Life Sciences, Product Development and Deploy, and Scientific and Regulatory Affairs, embedding toxicological considerations throughout the product lifecycle and influencing scientific direction.

  • Provide senior-level toxicological guidance to executive leadership and external stakeholders, influencing product development, regulatory submissions, and scientific direction, while maintaining vigilance on emerging scientific and regulatory trends.
  • Mentor junior scientists and contribute to the development of internal toxicology capabilities and best practices.

What are we looking for?

  • Advanced degree (PhD or MSc) in Toxicology or related field; DABT certification strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in toxicological evaluation within regulated industries (e.g., tobacco/nicotine, pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic, medical devices) with a track record of navigating complex regulatory landscapes.
  • At least 3-5 years of proven leadership in scientific strategy, regulatory engagement, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Experience managing scientific teams and developing talent across multiple levels.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience interfacing with senior leadership and external bodies.
  • Experience in global regulatory environments and familiarity with frameworks such as FDA and evolving standards (REACH , ISO, OECD).
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to translate scientific insights into business-relevant actions.
  • Skilled in embedding consistent toxicological assessment frameworks, coaching others to apply rigorous scientific approaches and driving organizational change through strategic leadership.
