BAT BANGLADESHIS LOOKING FOR A Senior HR Manager – Industrial Relations & Change
SENIORITY LEVEL: Senior Manager
FUNCTION: Human Resources

LOCATION: Dhaka
ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES
The Sr. HR Manager – IR & Changeis responsible for driving the long-term industrial relations people strategy for the unionized shopfloor employees of all the factories of BAT Bangladesh. The role also envisions short- and long-term changes in this space to drive transformation of key manufacturing operations. The enabling objectives are:
- Establish and maintain relationship internally and externally by networking across levels, multiple stakeholders (Company Leadership Team, Manufacturing Top Team, Operations Managers, Government Stakeholders, Elected Union Leaders (CBA), and Unionized Shop Floor Employees) and contribute in greater team activities.
- Trade Union relations management.
- Compliance with regulatory requirements and government stakeholder engagement.
- Manage own team, guide, and develop them with proper supervision. (4 direct reports)
- Ensure right people experience
WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR
- Drive long term people & reward strategy for transforming manufacturing operations
- Long term agreement: prepare the strategy ensuring smooth/stable business operations in alignment of a 10-year IR roadmap.
- Disciplinary Process: Act as the overall disciplinary action process owner triggering relevant ones and train and empower managers to understand various situations so that they can do the same per BAT and Labor Law. (Unauthorized absenteeism, theft, negligence of work, etc.)
- Cost optimization: Take up a target to reduce costs and support manufacturing operations to drive cost efficiency through control mechanism in a bottom-up approach
- People Development: Leading Self & Uplift session for shop floor front line mangers for leading the shop floor employees in accordance with Labor Law
- Lead the change management negotiation strategy, planning & execution for manufacturing operations in DF & SF
- Overlook the apprentice recruitment and explore expansion opportunities.
- Drive various change management to the future fit vision of the company.
- Lead the Org Pillar in IWS, design the SSSCT roadmap and achieve the readiness for Phase 3 as per the glidepath.
- Lead the culture upliftment initiatives pertaining to the shopfloor
- Lead Engaging and developing effective employee engagement programs, canteen operations, dispensary services & employee’s welfare/services to uplift the morale and help integrate employees to increase productivity
- Employee Engagement: Uplift and provide necessary support for designing the employee engagement activities and govern the engagement events throughout the year as per IR calendar (Eid-e-Miladun Nabi, Annual Iftar party, Kids Carnival, Employee LOS, Family Day)
- Canteen: Ensure 24/7 Canteen Operational Efficiency in cost, promote staff health and hygiene ensuring high motivation levels and engagement.
- Dispensary: Rationalizing overall dispensary costs while creating and maintaining a healthy workforce and promoting productivity through improved staff wellness (EHS audit, periodical medical check-up, regularize agreements with affiliated hospitals, ensure doctor and pharmacist 24/7 and efficiency in medicine cost)
- Welfare: Govern on timely delivery of uniform, shoe, umbrella, winter jacket, winter pant for shop floor employees, apprentices & management.
- Establish and maintain good relationship internally and externally by networking across levels, multiple stakeholders (LT, MTT, peers, government stakeholders, CBA, and shop floor employees) and contribute to greater team activities.
- Build and maintain rapport with CBA and opinion leaders in shopfloor
- Build and maintain relationship with manufacturing team and shop floor employees internally, building rapport with unionized industries under IR front.
- Cohesion with BAT leaders: Operation, Legal & CORA, Finance, and Leadership Team and increase the influencing skills
- Trade Union capability building for the future.
- LTA 2024-2026: shaping the LTA demands between management and CBA with future fit organizational capability upliftment in mind.
- Shape the culture and mindset of the CBA leaders
- Compliance with Regulatory Requirements and Government Stakeholder Engagement.
- Factory License Renewals: ensure on-time and smooth issuance and renewal via the team and relevant stakeholders.
- Government correspondence and engagement activities: Keep an overall hold on DOL and DIFE issues and officials by engaging the team and relevant stakeholders.
- Development of team members and Self
- Create customized development plans for team – plan the roadmap for their next role, overlook the IR knowledge bank project with the aim to have 100% knowledge retention, regardless of IR team changes.
- Self-Development: Master operations and factory knowledge to drive the change through intervention such as self-learning, on the job and buddy.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE
- A bachelor’s/master’s degree
- At least 8 years of experience in Human Resources in a corporate organization with proven experience in managing HR processes and IR.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with a track record of building credible relationships at all levels.
- Good organizational and project management skills, ensuring timely delivery of HR initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to drive change management and cultural initiatives within large teams.
- Strong knowledge of Bangladesh Labor Law.
