British American TobaccoHonduras has an exciting opportunity for a External Affairs Manager in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

Lead the implementation of the strategy against illicit trade for the markets in control, through the articulation of all areas of the company, in accordance with the regional and global guidelines; the activation of the local and national authorities in charge of the control and repression of the phenomenon and the co-responsibility of business guilds and associations, as well as the tobacco industry or other industries affected by the phenomenon.

ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES

Reports to - Head of Anti Illicit Trade

Number of Direct Reports – N/A

Geographic Scope - Central American markets

Core Relationships:

Internal – CORA Managers, Finance, Trade Marketing, Planning & Insights, Legal, Security, External Comms. & Gov. Affairs.

External – Government entities that directly or indirectly have the legal obligation to intervene in the control and repression of illicit trade. The basic entities are the National Police, the Directorate of National Taxes and Customs, the Secretaries of Finance, and the Secretaries of local governments. Associations and companies affected by the phenomenon of Illicit Trade and that can play a strategic role in the development of strategies.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and coordinate operative programmes against illicit trade from a business perspective, always aiming at improving the company's competitive conditions.
  • Monitor and control closely the anti-illicit trade actions and their effect across the region to gather learnings and guide the organization into taking better decisions in terms of route to market, portfolio, pricing, margins, etcetera.
  • Develop insights that integrate the dimension of illicit trade with the appropriate research, sales team information, industry performance reports, to relate this to the perspective of consumers, trade, distribution, to activate government stakeholders’ actions.
  • Proactively engages different actors, both public and private to advocate against the issue of contraband in the region and motivate
  • Provide direction and focus on the illicit trade problem, within the framework of internal working relationships between the areas, establishing common objectives and proposing individual objectives.
  • Coordinate the actions of the different areas within the framework of the strategy against illicit trade.
  • Encourage teamwork and harmonious interaction between the areas of the company.
  • Promote a permanent evaluation exercise on the understanding of the phenomenon and on the actions that are available to control it and improve the competitive conditions of the company.

What are we looking for?

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience as manager.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and drive action with government stakeholders in Honduras, CAM desirable.
  • Strong business & commercial acumen, strategic thinking, and project management desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfortable working with large amount of data.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Effectiveness in combating illicit trade.
  • Leading teams towards a common objective (both internal and external).
  • Creative through compliance framework (activating outside the box ideas).
  • Budget control required.
