    Title:  Operations Finance Manager

    Report to:   Area Operations Finance Controller

    Work Location:  Tokyo, Japan

    Role Summary

    Finance function in BAT Japan plays a role to shape a business strategy and drive strategic decisions which is in line with BAT’s transformation agenda “Building a Smokeless World” through providing financial insights and assessing business risks and opportunities. Finance ensures the company drives business growth with a profitable and sustainable financial structure. Finance function also provides operational finance services to the company such as business partner, budget management, financial planning, statutory reporting, and finance audit exercises.


    This position works as a business partner of Operations function which includes Supply Chain, Logistics, Procurement, Quality and New Product, and supports new products launch projects, leads cost optimization initiatives, develops new business proposals, performs spend analysis and budget management.

    As the business partner, this position looks after overall Cost of Sales for Japan market and provide financial analysis and insights to Finance Controller and Operations Senior Team.

    This position resides within Area Operations Finance team, which handles five markets (Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau) as well as a Factory located in South Korea and report to Area Operations Finance Controller. This position partly leads Area-wide activities, such as Area loss analysis & reporting and Area New Category device cost management.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Drive product launch & cost optimization initiatives with Operations team through assessing ROI (return on investment) and NPV, assessing the product cost effect, monitoring the product portfolio from profitability point of view, handling project budget through driving business risks and sensitivities.

    • Lead monthly financial forecast process and report cost of sales the latest estimate for Japan market, closely working with 1) manufacturing factories finance 2) Operations collaborators and 3) Corporate finance team at finance shared service in Malaysia.
    • Provide financial analysis on the forecast (Volume, Price, Mix analysis, Inflation & FX impact assessment, Cause of Change vs previous year/last forecast, as well as insights on product cost by Brands and product category & portfolio to Operations and Marketing collaborators and drive the discussion on profitability improvement.
    • Consolidate Area (JP, SK, TW, HK, MC) loss report and report to Area leadership team. Conduct root cause analysis with partners and initiate the loss mitigation plans.

    • Run Area cost of sales on Device category with collaborating with Finance teams in the markets. Provide consolidation view and report to Area FC and markets, and ensure accounting and governance & internal control procedures for Operations are in place and meeting SOX requirements. Proactively advise on the  improvements on control environment in Operations function.

    • Act as a key member of the finance leadership team and provide mentorship/leadership support to the team members. Seek continuous learning and development opportunities for self and the team members.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    • Minimum 5 years Finance/Accounting experience (FMCG industry experience a plus)

    • Financial analytical skills such as ROI, NPV calculation/ Price, volume, and mix analysis for P&L

    • Understanding of financial planning and reporting process and systems (SAP, BPC, Power BI experience an advantage)

    • Experience of people management

    • Proficiency in both English and Japanese
