The Finance department in BATJ exists to provide both strategic directions / guidance to the management and the organization of BAT Japan (BATJ) and APMEA North area to support its achievement of business plan. The department also monitors the Japan Group finances, overall financial performance and provides periodic updates to leadership team.
Broadly, the Finance function consists of two groups: (i) Corporate Finance, which provides business planning, business performance forecasting, statutory reporting, as well as tax/treasury services; and (ii) Commercial Finance, which works as a business partner for Marketing, Commercial and Supply Chain, contributes to decision-making on pricing strategy, resource allocation, business case preparation, investment return and spends effectiveness, channel and brand analysis, and budget management. This position resides within the Commercial Finance, which is headed by Commercial Finance Controller.
Strategic Business Partnering
- Business partner to Marketing and Commercial team,providing quality guidance and financial insights to support strategic and operational decisions.
- Partner cross-functionally with Marketing, Commercial, Supply Chain and Operations teams to evaluate financial implication of business initiatives.
- Support preparation of insightful strategic presentation that facilitate decision-making and engagement with senior management, regional and global stakeholders.
- Challenge assumptions and advocate for initiatives in line with business objectives.
Resource Allocation, Performance Management and Reporting
- Drive evaluation of the effectiveness of business initiatives through financial analysis (such as NPV, ROI, payback, scenario analysis etc.). Translate data-driven insights into recommendations for management team.
- Drive budget management process with Marketing and Commercial team and ensure investment allocation and actualisation in line with resource allocation principles and delivering business objectives. Monitoring of expenses and provide meaningful variance analysis to budget holders.
- Support and coordinate Annual Company Plan & quarterly budget processes.
- Ensure accuracy, consistency and timeliness of financial reporting in line with Company policies.
Governance and Controls
- Ensure financial policies, internal controls and governance procedures for cross-functions are in place and operating effectively.
- Contribute to identifying ways to improve the control environment & business processes and lead the changes without compromising creativity and enterprising spirit.
People management
- This role does not have direct report, and would require to collaborate closely with cross teams within finance and with GBS team outside of Japan.

LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT / BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES
- Understanding of the relationships / interfaces between departments and functions.
- Ability to collaborate with all levels of colleagues within the company across teams
- High commercial approach and strong management and interpersonal skills to address complexity and subjectivity of marketing

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years Finance business partnering experience (FMCG industry experience an advantage)
- Financial analytical skills such as ROI and NPV to perform/review financial analyses together with the capability to provide commercial insights
- Cross-function business partnering experience
- Understanding of excise and pricing strategy, company planning process
- Understanding of marketing strategy, principles, and relevant analytical tools
- Background as well as knowledge on commercial aspects of the business such as Trade & Brand Marketing activities
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of financial management and systems
- Fluency in both English and Japanese
