Reports to: Corporate Tax Manager
ROLE POSITIONING & OBJECTIVES
The role is part of the BAT Bangladesh Corporate Finance team and reports to the Corporate Tax Manager. The primary responsibility of the role is to manage VAT at company level, VAT Litigation, Documentation, Internal Reporting, VAT related internal and external policy implementation etc. and to proactively support the delivery of indirect tax strategy and drive indirect tax compliance improvements. The role is also required for necessary interaction with the internal stakeholders of the business and Corporate Finance team to maintain overall tax compliance and to achieve the company’s goal.
WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR
BUSINESS MANAGEMENT:
- Indirect Tax (VAT) Compliance:
- Responsible for proper management of Indirect Tax (VAT) compliance, accounting and audit activities by ensuring zero leakage due to non-compliance; ensure all tax savings opportunities are utilized.
- Preparation of related reports and statements as per VAT Act, Rules & Regulations such as VAT-4.3, VAT return, purchase registers, sales registers, rebate registers, VDS certificates and related internal reporting, workings, documents archiving etc.
- Ensure that in all applicable cases, VDS have been deducted and the same has been deposited in government exchequer within the stipulated timeline.
- Collaboratively working with cross functional members to ensure compliant business operation.
- Preparation of related statements and workings to meet the query of regional office i.e SOx, BPC, and any other query on ad-hoc basis.
- VAT Litigation, Documentation, Internal Reporting, VAT related internal and external policy implementation etc.
- Ensuring factory-based VAT compliance, excise payment, analytical and reporting responsibility.
- Controls and Process Improvements:
- Ensure existing controls and reconciliation process are followed.
- Engagement for development of manual process to automation like VAT software, online VAT return, e-invoicing etc.
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT:
- Managing team:
- Provide mentorship to other team members and steer the team to continuously deliver value and results.
- Ensure appropriate level of knowledge transfer for team members.
- Business partnering:
- Identify, assess, and where appropriate, implement efficiency improvements.
- Ensure compliance & business needs through proactive involvement and interaction.
- Manage the contractual resources and ensure business deliveries on time.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Business graduate with at least 5 years of VAT-related experience preferably in any MNC/Group of Companies/Manufacturing.
- Expert knowledge in VAT Act, rules and regulation.
- Added knowledge & experience in finance/accounting/SAP/Excel/Audit is required.
- Possess strong technical and interpersonal skills.
- An ability to work with all levels within the organization and experience in managing senior managers.
- Good communications skills with ability to explain and defend issues with respect to key decisions.
- Ability to establish priorities of key deliverables.
