British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for a Product Developer II in Southampton
What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?
The Extract Format Specialist II is accountable for setting the physical and chemical specifications of extracts for novel product developments or product upgrades in the R&D portfolio across categories, partnering with internal and external capabilities where appropriate, to support the execution of the commercial vision.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- To partner science function to implement the product development science plan based on regulatory compliance requirements and consumer preference.
- To demonstrate technical proficiency and broad scientific principles to ensure product development is delivered in line with the wider organisation’s standard methodologies.
- To ensure on time and in full delivery of specifications for new extracts in line with science plan timescales and launch times to meet business expectations.
- To have capability to support on product protection through secure IP, partnering with the LEX department for patent work, and that any new technology or process is adequately protected in line with the wider IP Strategy.
- To drive Consumer research sample design and preparation according to project plan, guarantee samples physical, chemical and sensorial quality.
- Closely supervise emerging extraction format innovations and potential external partners.
What are we looking for?
Experience Required
- Knowledge and hands-on experience of product development across categories.
- Knowledge and experience of consumer-product insights and product research.
- Ability to meet timescale criteria in line with project expectations.
- Experience with consumer research results interpretation.
- Good knowledge of extraction technologies and extract characterization.
Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required
- Demonstrated ability to analyze important factors and variables to impact long-term project outcomes.
- Successful collaboration among diverse cultures.
- Good initiative and independent thinking and effective communication, briefing and presentation skills.
- Resilient, flexible, and confident to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and ambiguous environment.
- Evidence of impactful experience as proven by high-quality publications and patents.
- Ability to identify and bring to bear key opportunities for intellectual property and understanding of Consumer Research design and impact in the overall development process.
Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required
- Degree-level qualification in a relevant field of study (i.e., science, engineering, etc).
- Strong background in chemistry or natural product research is highly desirable
