British American Tobacco Indonesia has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Scientist Analytical in Malang, Indonesia
This role holds significant responsibility in supporting BAT’s New Categories innovation path by delivering analytical expertise, technical direction, and quality data. It enables product innovation, lifecycle management (PLM), regulatory aid, and the Transforming Tobacco Harm Reduction (THR) ambition. As a recognised expert in Analytical Sciences, you will guide the development and deployment of tailored capabilities, advance laboratory excellence, and establish a high-performing analytical team to back BAT’s Global R&D agenda.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Provide technical leadership and scientific expertise to the Analytical team, ensuring delivery of high-quality analytical testing activities aligned with business priorities and guidelines.
- Lead analytical capability development, covering method establishment, assessment, and application (e.g., metals, carbonyls, TSNAs) in compliance with ISO 17025 and laboratory quality management systems.
- Manage analytical testing capacity, resources, and priorities to support New Categories innovation, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), and THR objectives.
- Lead, coach, and develop the Analytical team through capability building and talent development.
- Ensure delivery of timely, reliable, and compliant analytical data to support product understanding, regulatory needs, and business decisions.
- Drive continuous improvement, digital transformation, and effective ways of working across analytical operations.
- Collaborate with global R&D teams, Analytical CoE, Product Development teams, suppliers, CROs, and scientific partners.
- Support technical reports, publications, presentations, and scientific collaborations to strengthen analytical capabilities.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory governance, ISO 17025 accreditation, safety standards, regulatory requirements, and analytical service excellence.
What are we looking for?
- Proficiency in English.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related scientific field.
- 5–10 years of background in Analytical Sciences with solid practical experience in analytical instrumentation and managing laboratory operations.
- Strong expertise in analytical techniques such as GC-FID, HPLC, HPLC/MS/MS, and related analytical technologies.
- Proven experience in analytical method development, validation, troubleshooting, calibration, and laboratory guidelines.
- Experience working in a quality-controlled laboratory environment such as ISO 17025 accredited and/or GxP-compliant laboratories.
- Experience leading analytical teams, developing technical capability, and building a high-performing team culture.
- Strong understanding of analytical data management, informatics tools, data quality standards, interpretation, and reporting.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with global collaborators, external partners, and scientific communities.
- Strong communication, influencing, and leadership skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences.
