British American Tobaccohas an exciting opportunity for an External Commercial Engagement Executive in Papua New Guinea.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Design key documents for the Corporate and Regulatory Affairs (CORA) Functional area including the Annual CORA Campaign Strategy, PNG Horizon Scan, the Annual PNG Campaign Plan and the CORA Corporate Engagement Plan, and implement these Plans and Strategy with external advocacy activities that will support the key functional results. This is particularly in relation to commercial compliance, regulation, excise and other commercial engagement activities.
- Liaise with Commercial Compliance, Excise, and CORA teams to provide analysis and insights for BAT PNG.
- Customize and develop campaign/advocacy materials to support market requirements.
- Support and implement engagement on technical matters relating to commercial engagement including illicit and counterfeit tobacco and tobacco products, and excise as agreed with the Head of CORA, and the wider CORA team.
- Establish, maintain ongoing engagement with key government departments and State entities on matters relating to government budgets, taxation, excise duties, revenue, employment and other corporate social responsibility programs or community investment and ESG projects.
- Lead the planning, development, and rollout of specific trade and retail communications with regard to illicit and counterfeit tobacco, excise & other non-compliant activities to ensure level playing field.
- Support other functions within the business as a primary contact point for all external engagement activities.
What are we looking for?
- Minimum 5 years working in both the PNG public sector or a commercial and business sector, or a statutory body or State agency or an industry body with strong understanding of public sector operation, legal and regulatory frameworks and taxation laws pertaining to the industry with regard to excise duties, government taxation, business regulatory, tobacco control, industry’s contribution to government revenues, employment, and other matters related to regulatory compliance and risk management.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Taxation, Economics, Law, or a related field. Alternatively, a college Diploma with relevant experience may be acceptable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and trust with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify opportunities and develop effective solutions.
- Strong team player who can work collaboratively across different functions and teams.
- Willingness to travel both internally and externally.
- Demonstrate external corporate engagement skills and experience, particularly with relevant government departments and statutory bodies the public sector.
- Must possess high level of diplomacy, public relations skills, people-centred, outgoing personality and can easily adjust/adopt to changing business environment and circumstances.
- Possess the ability to easily connect, develop and maintain close working relationship with stakeholders in the corporate sector including trade and industry bodies, interest groups such as Chambers of Commerce and Business Councils and other industry bodies as well as engagement at community levels where ESG or community projects are implemented.
- Ability to prioritize assignments, remain flexible in a changing environment and work independently with minimum supervision.
- High degree of proficiency in the use of communication technologies including MS Office Suite, teams, Outlook & Internet applications, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
