British American TobaccoSolomon Islandshas an exciting opportunity for a Technician in Fiji (1-year contract)
This role is responsible for operating and maintaining assigned production equipment to achieve safety, quality, and productivity targets. The person applies Integrated Work Systems (IWS) and Daily Management Systems (DMS) principles to drive equipment reliability, troubleshoot issues, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Operate assigned equipment and flow to work as needed to meet business requirements, while supporting daily production activities and maintenance priorities in accordance with established processes and standards.
- Perform and coordinate daily, weekly, and major maintenance activities, support equipment troubleshooting, identify abnormalities, and follow up on root cause actions to improve equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
- Execute and support planned equipment changeovers and maintenance activities in line with Standard Work Practices and target times, while maintaining and ensuring compliance with equipment and operational standards.
- Execute DMS and action plans, and apply IWS tools and continuous improvement methodologies to support maintenance planning, identify and eliminate equipment losses, develop improvement plans, and improve process reliability and planned and unplanned downtime.
- Participate in daily Shift DDS and weekly DDS meetings to review Top 3 losses, initial findings, process failures, breakdowns, quality and safety incidents, CO, DMS, and MP&S, and prioritize and plan maintenance actions to bring losses back to baseline.
- Ensure compliance with QA, EH&S, and operational standards while supporting maintenance planning and execution in line with production requirements and the Master Production Schedule.
- Develop One Point Lessons and coach and train Technical Operators, Operators, and peers on equipment operation, maintenance practices, standard work, and best practices to strengthen technical capability.
- Work collaboratively with peers and cross-functional teams to coordinate maintenance priorities, support loss elimination and continuous improvement initiatives, and maintain a cohesive, responsive, and flexible production operation.
What are we looking for?
- At least a Trade Certificate in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering and 3 to 5 years of relevant experience
- Ability to work with data and information analysis using Microsoft Excel
- Proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint is required for OPL & Work Instructions
- Adequate knowledge on problem solving skills (5Whys, 6W2H) and general factory standard such as 5S, EHS & Good manufacturing practices.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of staff
- Able to lead a team and be a team player him/herself
- Proficient in troubleshooting knowledge on machines (cigarette maker/packer) will be an added advantage.
