British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for SENSORY SCIENTIST I in Southampton
What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?
- Responsible for ensuring that all Sensory and Panel activities are performed and delivered on time in full.
- Uphold Panel Maintenance activities related to sensorial panels, ensuring they are operating at a high level and fully adhering to all internal processes required.
- The role involves managing, planning, and directing sensory activities required for the execution of Product Development and/or Innovations Projects.
- Maintain a level of expertise in all aspects of sensory evaluation of PRRP products.
- Responsible for the quality of the Sensory results and panel sustainability.
- Ensure that sensory best practises are implemented, maintained, and globally aligned.
- Provide guidance and consultancy to the technical community to establish and embed robust ways of working.
- Issue recommendations to partners based on aggregation and interpretation of sensory data and in-depth understanding of project objectives through close collaboration with Project Teams.
- Drive change management and understanding of sensory within the sphere of influence.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Management of day-to-day Sensory activities, whilst ensuring best practise implementation, alongside agreed priorities, and aligned to the Global S&PCI Strategy.
- Uphold and maintain the quality of the sensory results, methodologies, and the implementation of Sensory “Best Practice” across all panels.
- Proactively seek ways to improve all aspects of sensory work within the panels and categories, including functional methodologies, practical solutions and facilities and present these ideas in an appropriate way to the Sensory leadership Team.
- Partner with colleagues within the sensory area and across the wider business to enhance and deliver, project guidance through co-ordination of sensory testing activities and generation of sensory insights.
- Communicate and disseminate insights to key partners and across the sensory network, to deliver the business goal and strategy.
- Applies project management and digital data, across actionable sensory insights for new categories and FMC.
- Work hand in hand with the product development teams to deliver the right product insights at the right time of the development process.
- Proactively seek ways to improve all aspects of sensory work, including functional methodologies, practical solutions, digital and facilities and present these ideas in an appropriate way to the Sensory leadership Team.
- Work with colleagues and the Global S&PCI team to enable prioritisation of workload and agility in delivery.
- Forecasts, plans & tracks utilisation and spend while adhering to financial process and controls.

What are we looking for?
Experience Required/Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required
- Expert in sensory methodology, standard process, and all elements of reporting on sensory results.
- Ability to influence senior partners cross functionally and communicate in clear and simple terms.
- Effectively manage knowledge, promote cross-functional communication, and build effective relationships both internally and externally.
Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required
- Professional/academic achievement in Life Sciences, marketing, or a related science at BSc level
BENEFICIAL
- Experience in Digital and Data Science (Multivariate analysis, Programming in R Statistics).
- Experience in sensory science.
