British American Tobacco Sweden has an exciting opportunity for a TO & HEX Area Manager in Malmö
The Area Manager ensures a safe, compliant, and high performing operation by embedding BAT’s Health, Safety, and Environmental standards into all daily work and maintaining full adherence to the Global Operating Model and Swedish regulations. This role provides strong operational leadership through IWS, RTT, and Daily Management Systems to secure stable production, equipment reliability, and consistent product quality. The manager drives loss elimination, supports NPI activities, and ensures effective Daily Direction Setting (DDS) along with his own qualification in different roles.
The Area Manager is accountable for ensuring the team has the right capabilities and resources in place. The role's responsibilities include recruitment, setting salaries, signing employment agreements, and leading all rehabilitation processes for personnel. As a people leader, the manager builds engaged, high performing teams through clear communication, accountability, continuous development, and a strong culture of inclusivity and change readiness.
Work model: On-site (factory/manufacturing environment)
Working hours: 08:00 - 16:30, Monday to Friday
Shifts: No shift work required
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Health, Safety & Compliance:
- Champion BAT’s Health, Safety, and Environmental culture by embedding it into procedures and work instructions. Ensure compliance within the team and maintain a safe, risk-conscious working environment to minimize or eliminate exposure to hazards.
- Ensure full compliance with BAT’s Global Operating Model and Swedish labor laws and regulations.
- Deploy and sustain all the quality compliance rules and governance in shop floor.
- Operational Leadership:
- Guide teams to achieve the Compelling Business Need (CBN) and Site Master Plan through meticulous application of RTT and Integrated Work System (IWS) tools.
- Responsible for deploying different DMS, pillar activities and people qualifications in the departments.
- Full accountability to lead and set the 24-hour direction for the line(s) during the Daily Direction Setting (DDS) to deliver the business results and ensure the follow-up actions are completed.
- Ensure that the quality trigger daily management system and standards are in place and used to guarantee the product quality, integrity, and full traceability, define targets and monitor the result of quality indicators as well as lead the follow-up actions to deliver high-quality product.
- Owner of DMS (Daily Management System) within Integrated Work System: Incident Elimination, Quality Trigger, Clean Inspect and Lubricated and Defect Handling.
- People Leadership:
- Build and Develop High‑Performing Teams, ensure appropriate skills and proficiencies.
- Strengthen Employee Engagement and Well‑Being. Initiate, coordinate and follow up on rehabilitation processes to support a safe and sustainable return to work.
- Drive accountability and performance management, develop a culture of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, lead through change, manage the team through uncertainties and make them feel safe.
- Responsible for all employee lifecycle activities and processes in compliance with BAT standards and people administration in HR Information Systems.
- SCOPE OF AUTHORITY:
- Approve and implement financial, HR, and other business critical decisions aligned with BAT policies and governance standards.
- Decision-making authority over budget and implementation of new process and improvements, as well as people management for the team.
- Authority to: take disciplinary actions for team members acting in a noncompliant way, make decisions and take actions within rehabilitation discussions, initiate hiring for empty positions and make hiring decisions in collaboration with Line manager and HR.
- Comply and implement activities in accordance with the rules of laws and regulations relating to environmental protection, safety at work and fire protection, and internal EHS or Sustainability standards and procedures.
What are we looking for?
- University degree + experience from leading Production and People in Manufacturing industry.
- Deep knowledge within IWS or similar tools and subject areas. As well as familiarity with structured problem tools, such as, IPS, UPS and 6W2H
- Documented proven ability to navigate complex environments and demonstrated leadership in the area of safety and quality and continuous improvement.
- Fluent in spoken and written Swedish as well as English
- Clear understanding of budget process, resource management, CapEx management.
- Effective coaching and interpersonal skills
- Analytical capabilities, to analyze data, identify gaps and use insights for problem solving.
- Important Leadership Capabilities in this role: ability to empower & inspire teams and lead people (directly and indirectly) to achieve a common goal and to act as representative of the company, making decisions, manage conflicts and run tough conversations.
