What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?
With an innovative mentality, the role contributes to Product Development activities within the fast-moving pace of the New Categories Heated Product (HP) portfolio.
The Product Developer I is accountable for the execution of assigned workstreams within global product deploy portfolio projects as required, to deliver the 5-year innovation pipeline.
Through the application of sound technical and scientific principals & scientific expertise, this role will involve consumable prototyping, lab work, data analysis and the management of sensory evaluations across the assigned portfolio of projects.
What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organization?
This role champions the practical and technical expertise on prototypes making and testing, experimental methods & techniques, and product specification development for samples manufacture to give guidance to indirect developer roles within the team.
The role supports Senior Product Developers to gain a further depth and breadth of technical knowledge, meeting the product and quality performance expectations according to business objectives ensuring that these products are delivered in line with standard methodologies for new product development and are supported by robust technical data.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- To drive the delivery of assigned workstreams within a portfolio of Heated Products (HP) consumable deployment projects
- Applying sound technical and scientific expertise to deliver consumable prototyping, lab work, data analysis and the management of sensory evaluations
- To ensure a detailed understanding of the role and performance of new HP consumable innovations and how they interact with the device to understand the PH system’s sensory performance
- Providing Senior Product Developer roles with key technical input, recommendations and support whilst working through effective self-management, ensuring project goals are met
- To maintain rigorous control on the quality of output to channel product developments through the pipeline to product launch, ensuring that assigned deliverables follow internal R&D processes and designed methodologies
- To strive to identify areas for continuous improvements in our ways of working through the development of new procedures and/or lab practices, promoting enhanced methods to support product development team results
- To independently create work plans to deliver against the priorities set by Senior Product Developers to meet project timescales
- To support in the coaching and guidance of indirect team members in the product development process and lab standard methodologies, contributing to the improvement of overall team performance.
What are we looking for?
- Ability to demonstrate project management experience, understanding of analytical & sensory data from various sources of product testing, and translate inferred data into information for recommendation or decision making
- Holds proven experience in the relevant space and in product development & product testing
- To have technical curiosity with problem solving and creative thinking skills
- Display knowledge on prototyping, sampling and testing procedures and processes
- Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of next generation product composition would be an advantage
- Understanding of project management and development timescales, and how the role contributes to the broader R&D innovation pipeline.
- Degree or equivalent commercial experience in a science, FMCG or Food & Beverage Product Development related field

- Ideally experience in product development of tobacco products: casings and flavorings, cigarette design, primary and secondary manufacturing processing
