BAT Tech Hub Malaysia is Looking for an Associate Manager - Commercial Legal (HR & Employment Law)

Seniority Level: Management Role

Function: LEGAL AND EXTERNAL AFFAIRS (LEX)

Salary Range: (To Be Discussed) + excellent benefits + market leading bonus

ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES

  • Delivering a high professional standard of legal support to the Company through the application of excellent counselling, drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Providing proactive advice and support to business partners and stakeholders, locally and globally.
  • Participating actively in problem-solving and decision-making in all areas of the business, and consistently working to minimize and manage commercial and legal risks.
  • Providing the Legal Counsel with quality and proactive commercial and legal support and advice, to support the achievement of the LEX function’s business and strategic objectives.

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR

 

Business

  • Providing overall legal advice and service to the entire organization in a manner which advances its business objectives while effectively managing relevant risks.
  • Structuring, negotiating, drafting and advising on execution of all transactions including but not limited to Global Business Services and other business operations.
  • Ensuring proper corporate governance in place for internal compliance.
  • Proactively providing pragmatic and sound advice to support the Company's commercial and corporate activities.
  • Ensuring appropriate procedures and processes are followed for all company policies and agreements from creation to execution, and end to end.
  • Supporting and ensuring that employment related matters are properly managed and reported to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Promoting and helping support legal awareness across the Company.
  • Contributing to the build and maintenance of a central legal knowledge centre (precedents, training material, induction material, etc)
  • Developing and delivering training to support understanding and compliance by employees at all levels of the Company, in relation to corporate governance related policies and standards.

  • Proactively engaging and working cross-functionally and effectively with stakeholders globally to fully understand and support their business needs.
  • Keeping abreast of developments in the relevant areas of law and to advise functions and stakeholders of the legal impact when appropriate.
  • Identifying opportunities to develop and apply standardized processes and documentation to support simplification, improve productivity and reduce complexity.
  • Working closely within the Commercial Legal team to support a ‘One Team’ concept.
  • Demonstrating continuous improvement & development of self by always ensuring behaviour aligns with company ethos.

 

 

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Malaysia, UK or equivalent qualified lawyer (called to the Bar) with a minimum of 4 years post qualification experience, gained at reputable law firms and experience as an in-house counsel would be an added advantage.
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Additional languages are an advantage.
  • Experience and expertise in commercial and corporate practice, with a proven track record of advising on complex contractual and other legal matters.
  • Excellent legal drafting skills
  • Compliance and employment law experience is an advantage.
  • Strong negotiation and project management skills, and ability to plan, anticipate and manage priorities to optimise output and enhance the effectiveness of commercial solutions
  • Hands-on, adaptable and flexible attitude, sound commercial judgment and ability to work under pressure and to cope with unexpected and varied demands.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a high degree of emotional intelligence, with the ability to build trusted relationships with peers and senior stakeholders.
  • Keeps up to date with changes in law and corporate governance best practices to ensure that company transactional structures, documentation, policies and contract management processes remain current and commercially appropriate
