British American TobaccoAlgeria has an exciting opportunity for a Customs Assistant in Oran.

REPORTS TO: Logistics Manager

FUNCTION: Supply chain

LOCATION: Oran, BAT Algeria

LEVEL: Non Management

The role entails ensuring smooth and OTIF deployment of customs clearance operations for BAT Algeria

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • To follow up clearance progress for domiciliated shipments and ensure smooth discharge under Customs Control Procedures and keep good level of alignment with local WH teams for smooth inbound
  • Engage with local customs authorities (DCP, Customs Tax, Customs Anti-Corruption, Customs Inspection Team) in field (when needed) and coordinate forwarders & their agents  to ensure smooth execution of clearance
  • Calculate and submit importation related tax payments / storage fees /demurrage & detention payments to Logistics manager for review and submission for Finance sign off
  • Ensure necessary importation documentation & files are delivered OTIF to forwarders and other entities (when neeeded)
  • Ensure timely communication to quality and local Warehouse team about port dispatch schedule and timings so that controls can be delivered in timely manner
  • Be a role-model for safe and sustainable operations environment.
  • Attend daily DDS and ensure proper drive of Safety DMS actions & drumbeat
  • Comply by all the Sustainability standards & rules and follow the instruction given by Sustainability team and managers.
  • Ensure proper management of the checklists & controls, when needed
  • Ensure usage of necessary PPE
  • Report near misses and risks

  • Dry Port Representative and managers
  • Forwarders & Customs clearance agents

What are we looking for?

  • Vocational School degree
  • 1-2 years’ experience in clearance related processes such as importation, forwarder, customs system execution is preferable
  • Communication (written and verbal) and Inter-personal skills
  • Fluent English knowledge for both written and verbal is an advantage
  • Experience in Logistics - Importation & Forwarding
  • Decision making
  • Negotiation skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Computer literacy (Excellent knowledge of MS Office)
  • Good understanding of basic Supply chain and importation principles
