British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for an In Vitro Laboratory Scientist in Southampton
What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?
Support the execution of in house pre-clinical studies applying in vitro capabilities to assess BAT products. These will be primarily, but not limited to toxicology studies.
The role will be responsible to produce preclinical data across all BAT product categories.
The primary purpose of preclinical data is to satisfy BAT’s duty of care by substantiating consumer product safety, meeting regulatory obligations and providing scientific substantiation of health-related claims such as reduced risk versus a cigarette.
The role will also involve partnering with the team accountable for bringing new preclinical capabilities into BAT, including the Science Discovery function, to ensure we can meet our emerging needs such as disease focused toxicity mechanisms.
What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organization?
The pre-clinical screening and evaluation capabilities will be applied to support BAT’s harm reduction strategy including evaluation of e-cigarettes, heated products, and nicotine pouches, enabling product launches and supporting a competitive product pipeline.
This role directly delivers on BAT’s core purpose of A Better Tomorrow, via the science and technical framework to reduce the public health impact of our business.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Support the execution and reporting of preclinical data packages using internal quality management systems.
- Maintenance and running of relevant laboratory requirements to support the Pre-clinical team.
- Practical application of a broad range of cell biology and in vitro toxicology assays, such as cytotoxicity, oxidative stress, respiratory and / or cardiovascular disease models.
- Input into the delivery of high content screening approaches, data integration and analysis to support pre-clinical and toxicology assessments.
- Input into engagement activities with key partners by preparing and delivering presentations at internal and external meetings
What are we looking for?
- Expertise in cell biology, molecular toxicology or pharmacology with a relevant biological sciences degree and/or postgraduate laboratory experience, sandwich lab internship or similar.
- Proven ability in the application of in vitro approaches in the pre-clinical field associated with, product assessment, clinical endpoints, and human health effects.
- Experience in execution of in vitro studies
- Study design, analysis, and data interpretation in a relevant field
- Relevant degree in biological sciences
Beneficial
- Practical experience in mammalian cell culture
- Development and application of 96-well cellular assays (ELISA, MTT, NRU or similar)
- Practical experience of flow cytometry.
