BAT Türkiye Is Looking For A Senior Packaging Development Manager – Team Lead

The purpose of this role is to develop, specify, deliver, and manage the assigned Packaging Development / Deployment activities for the assigned project to support growth, regulatory, source change, productivity, complexity reduction and maintenance projects in line with overall business strategies for FMC and NC. Leads the technical discussions for all deploy activities for both categories. Manage a team of Packaging Developers.

FUNCTION: Packaging Innovation / Deployment

LOCATION: Packaging Deploy CoE - Istanbul Türkiye

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Implementation of Packaging Development plans for the assigned cell, in line with the region’s strategy.
  • Building sustainable and effective relationships with external suppliers/partners through knowledge sharing, open-minded and fair engagements that are beneficial to both parties.
  • Managing Technical Assessments for new suppliers and new processes for existing suppliers together with Quality.
  • Providing leadership and development for a team of Packaging Development managers for the assigned geographical cell.
  • Leading the agreed regional processes to deliver the region’s packaging development objectives and plans.
  • Identifying and managing the requirements of wrapping materials qualification and new combinations as agreed with the Technical Cell.
  • Developing and leading the New Product Introduction (NPI) to market and within budget for each project, by working closely with the end-markets on their specific requirements and continually aspiring for effective and efficient delivery.
  • Effective process and delivery of packaging development to ensure the packaging mechanics work accordingly and all wrapping materials are developed on time, and within budget.
  • Development of Packaging specifications for all Graphics and Materials and the integrity of the specifications meet the expected quality levels.
  • Reviewing and monitoring packaging material and color standards for the region (to ensure compliance to BAT brand standards).
  • Ensuring the delivery of brand packaging that meets consumers’ requirements and enhances brand values effective commercially effective solutions.
  • Driving successful implementation of new or improved technologies, methods, and processes.
  • Managing the portfolio of pipeline projects and ensure projects are delivered on-time, in-full, to budget and at targeted quality.
  • Supporting the Regional Head of Packaging with setting and implementing the strategic direction for region’s Product Centre.
  • Roll out and deployment of standards for the cell/region.
  • Ensuring accurate budget management and tracking for packaging development activities for the assigned cell.
  • Providing effective leadership to direct reports within the assigned cell – to include coaching, performance management and career development.
  • Close working relationships with:
    • Global and Cross-Regional Packaging and Materials Development communities,
    • Marketing,
    • Operating Companies and end markets - Marketing, Manufacturing, Procurement, Supply Chain,
    • External suppliers of print (Global, Regional and local) – establish effective working relationship with both current and potential suppliers and converters or other technical experts,
    • External design and advertising agencies – provide expert guidance in the creative design process,
    • External – Participation in industry forums & working groups, trade fairs.

What are we looking for?

  • University degree or equivalent in chemical science, or technical background in Printing/Packaging Technology-desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of technical and commercial Packaging concepts across a broad range of printed and wrapping materials, spanning across diverse technologies with understanding of specifications, suppliers and processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of cigarette manufacturing processes including machinery requirements and performance of materials on machine, which can vary between manufacturing locations.
  • In-depth understanding of Brand Marketing strategies and the functional-fit of Packaging Development in delivering company strategies.
  • Excellent project management skills - ability to plan and manage projects across functional levels.
  • Excellent communication skills, with ability to articulate and resolve technical (& commercial) issues with other experts, and to maintain simple yet effective communication with non-technical people.
  • Ability to influence and negotiate stakeholders at a senior level.
  • Able to develop and foster good working relationships across all levels in the region Product Centre.
  • Providing technical solutions on brand introductions as well as minimizing impact to Operations when introducing innovation and quality improvements.
