British American Tobacco Romania has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Treasury Dealer in Bucharest.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Cash Management – Review the operating companies’ currency bank account balances, analyse and position short-term cash flows based on daily and short-term forecasts, as well as Corporate Finance–related funding projects. Based on this assessment, invest, borrow, or exchange funds as appropriate to ensure the Group’s liquidity is maintained at all times. This process typically requires consideration of security of principal, liquidity, pricing, and the respective credit positions of counterpart banks. All activities are to be handled and completed in accordance with the service level agreements in place between the TSC (Treasury Service Centre) and the operating companies.
- Foreign Exchange Management – In collaboration with the relevant Regional Treasurers, and acting as the Treasury Centre of Excellence for operating companies in relation to their FX hedging programmes, undertake foreign exchange hedging transactions on behalf of operating companies. This includes ensuring that all proposed hedgs are fully aligned with Group policy and appropriately documented to maintain compliance with applicable accounting standards.
- Hedging execution - In conjunction with the Risk management team complete strategic hedging programs in respect of group companies profit repatriation to the centre. The external FX hedges to be undertaken in accordance with pre-determined Group Treasury policy and guidelines. Additionally, to ensure that compliance guidelines have been fully documented and adhered to.
- Product Evaluation – The increased sophistication of the dealing function – both on the foreign exchange and investment markets demands a high level of skill and understanding of the ever-increasing number of products that are offered by financial institutions. Proactively review and evaluate new financial market products to resolve their applicability to BATIF’s existing suite of trading instruments, taking into account the various risk factors typically inherent in new financial instruments. Typical examples include structured currency options and other derivatives.
- Professional Representation – Proactively manage and maintain the Group’s external business partner relationships and the TSC’s internal customer relationships to ensure that BATIF/TSC both delivers and receives best‑in‑class Treasury services in the course of day‑to‑day Treasury operations. This typically includes representing the Company through regular internal and external business partner meetings to discuss a broad range of business‑related topics. In addition, actively promote the Group Treasury vision and strategy, including the role of the Treasury Service Centre as a provider of in‑house banking services across the Group.
- Organisational Change – Continually review and recommend practical alternatives and improvements to current processes. Support and assist organisational change initiatives specifically related to activities within the dealing area inclusive of new systems implementation where applicable. This may include the sole management of projects and/or to ensure that the required projects tasks are completed in a timely fashion to an expected standard, as an active member of a larger project team.
- Information Exchange – Provide upon request market based information to TSC participants and other interested parties. This requires the continuous analysis of financial and economic information.
- Management Reporting and analysis – Proactively explore, analyse and recommend alternatives in the content and format of reporting and management information. Responsible for maintaining the current daily and monthly analytical and statistical reports. These reports include FX performance and league tables related to TSC trading turnover.
What are we looking for?
The job holder will be required to:
- Have a comprehensive working knowledge of Corporate Treasury activities, including foreign exchange and interest rate risk management, money market and funding operations, treasury accounting, a range of Treasury and electronic banking systems, as well as the ability to confidently interact with collaborators at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Have extensive experience with money market and foreign exchange instruments, including spot and forward FX transactions, interest rate and currency swaps, and options. This includes managing Commercial Paper issuance across various programs and investing short-term surplus cash in appropriate investment instruments.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of financial markets, particularly the impact of economic data and its relationship with movements in foreign exchange and interest rate markets.
- Have a solid working knowledge of Treasury-related financial and management accounting, with the ability to apply this expertise effectively to management reporting and control.
- Have a high degree of adaptability and the ability to integrate financial market concepts and risk frameworks to develop relevant innovations for the Treasury Service Centre (TSC) and the wider BAT Group.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with a proactive approach to maintaining and developing effective working relationships with end-market organizations. Strong English language proficiency is required due to the international operating scope of the role.
- Possess strong IT skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, Reuters, Bloomberg, FXall, and SAP, along with a proven experience in a Treasury environment.
