BAT Vietnam has an exciting opportunity for a Tax Director role in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR:
- Provide strategic and commercially aligned tax leadership on key commercial and strategic projects, ensuring tax considerations are embedded in business decisions and execution.
- Supervise and interpret changes in tax legislation and policy, assessing impacts on the business and advising leadership on risks, opportunities, and required actions.
- Oversee the governance of intercompany and intragroup transactions, ensuring appropriate documentation, control frameworks, and assurance processes are in place to support tax deductibility and compliance (execution delegated where appropriate).
- Lead internal control and tax health‑check programmes, including ICFR oversight, proactively identifying control weaknesses, assessing risk exposure, and ensuring timely remediation.
- Oversee tax inputs into internal audits, external audits, and regulatory reviews, with a focus on governance, transparency, and risk mitigation.
- Group Tax reporting – review and input to group tax reporting i.e. accurate: tax affect accounting, Pillar 2, tax risks and tax provisions for Vietnam cluster
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Minimum 15 years of tax experience preferably exposure within multinational corporations, professional services firms, or tax authorities.
- Professionally qualified in Accounting and/or Law (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CA, CIMA) with a Bachelor’s Degree and preferably a Master’s in Taxation.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex tax and treasury matters to non‑specialist stakeholders, senior management, and external counterparts.
- Strong judgment in interpreting tax legislation and principles, applying them pragmatically to business scenarios within the organisation’s risk appetite.
- Solid understanding of finance, commercial, and legal considerations in a multinational or complex business environment, enabling effective contribution to strategic and commercial projects.
- Strong problem‑solving capability, with a solution‑oriented approach and the ability to balance risk, control, and business needs.
- Ability to represent the company credibly with government authorities, regulators, and external advisors, managing relationships at an appropriate senior level.
- Effective negotiation skills, particularly in financial, regulatory, and advisory contexts.
