We have an exciting opportunity for an External Reporting Manager – litigation. This role is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of the BAT group’s contingent liability reporting, in line with international accounting standards and SOX controls.
The position involves working closely with multiple internal and external stakeholders, having a solid understanding of accounting standards, and strong process management skills to ensure accurate and timely reporting.Internal relationships are with the Head of Commercial & Product Liability (line manager), the Assistant General Counsel - Litigation & Regulation, and other Senior Counsel within the Litigation & Regulation team. In addition, the job holder will be required to build strong relationships with End Market and Regional Legal teams, as well as Group Finance and Group Company Secretarial. External relationships are with the Group’s external auditors and external lawyers (both domestic and international).
The role also includes responsibility for ensuring that internal reporting requirements related to litigation risk are completed on time and in full.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Proactive management of the group’s contingent liability disclosures in compliance with the group’s SOx controls, international accounting and internal reporting procedures.
- Engagement with the group’s Finance and Company Secretarial teams to ensure on time in full delivery in accordance with group deadlines.
- Engagement with external and internal auditors to ensure robustness and consistency in reporting.
- Engagement with external counsel to ensure continued compliance with international reporting standards.
- Continued monitoring of the reporting environment to identify simplification opportunities through process improvement and technological tools.
- On time in full completion of internal reporting requirements in respect of litigation risk issues.
What are we looking for?
- 6+ years post graduate work experience, ideally in international FMCG organisations
- Financial literacy, experience with financial reporting obligations and working closely with financial teams
- Paralegal or other associated legal experience is preferred
- Self-starter with the ability to proactively manage complex processes without undue supervision or intervention of line management
- Excellent process management skills and ability to set and work to deadlines
- Responsive and fast in dealing with issues
- Excellent stakeholder management, with the ability to instil confidence as a trusted performer in colleagues and external stakeholders
