LOCATION: Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur

ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES

The Sustainability Associate Manager is responsible for the delivery of the strategy, policies and standards for Malaysia while providing the counsel, advice and support to end market, enable the seamless execution of the regionally aligned strategy and adherence to the policies and standards within the geography in order to ensure we protect our corporate reputation, license to operate and our access to resources

Reports to: Head of Operations, MY & SG

Geographic Scope: Local, serving both Malaysia and Singapore

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR

Operational

  • Execution with direction from Area lead a coherent risk-based approach
  • Implement a yearly plan to support the groups environmental strategy and target
  • Support SME on environmental conversations whilst instilling within the organization the awareness and participation.
  • Engage local NGO/external stakeholders to elevate BATM’s environmental program
  • Support local PLC requirement by validating the sustainability data and contribute to annual report
  • Perform Compliance Assessments as part of the functional assurance process, ensuring follow-up actions are monitored to completion and reported to the relevant audit forums accordingly

Leadership & Management

  • Implements agreed / prioritised programmes to drive greater awareness, understanding and adherence amongst manager and employees across BAT Malaysia
  • Ensures the appropriate processes and systems are effective, transparent and regularly reviewed and set of key KPIs is established, monitored and relevant actions are taken to minimise business exposure to risks.
  • Malaysia plans /initiatives contribute to performance and the overall realisation of business strategy
  • Regional and Area sustainability policies/strategies and processes are understood, supported, and aligned
  • Engages the business through the development of an inspiring, involving and enabling environment and culture that results in commitment to sustainability

Relationship

  • Work closely with Area Sustainability Manager in implementing sustainability operational plan, ensuring that trade and brand programmes are aligned with consumer segment objectives.
  • Work with Supply Chain and Commercial teams to ensure that the programmes are aligned with ESG mindset
  • Manage business relationship with target trade partners within Malaysia and Singapore.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sustainable Development, Agriculture, Environmental & Social Science or any other related disciplines
  • Minimum of 3-4 years’ experience in in aspects of sustainability and / or EH&S management
  • Experience leading geographic unit to successfully deliver business goals in an international company.
  • Delivered wide scale and complex change programmes over multi-national geography.
  • Good knowledge of international regulations, the sustainable development agenda and external engagement practices.
  • Understanding of audit methodology or experience of working in an audit role
  • NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety preferred
  • Understanding of energy efficiency, green energy, on-site generation, energy planning, ISO 50.001 Energy Management, PAS 2060 Carbon Neutrality Certification, Offsetting, iREC’s, REC’s & PPA, Internal Carbon Pricing and Marginal Abatement Curve.
  • Understand key environmental internal reporting metrics (scope 1, 2 & 3, water, waste).
