British American Tobacco Romania has an exciting opportunity for a Tax Manager in Bucharest
Tax Manager acts as a proactive business partner across the organization, supporting the Romania Taxation Manager in ensuring full compliance with statutory accounting and taxation requirements. The role contributes to the accuracy, timeliness, and effectiveness of local financial reporting and tax compliance, while promoting best practices and continuous improvement.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Ensure compliance with Value Added Tax (VAT) requirements, including review of VAT journals and correct VAT treatment in accordance with local legislation.
- Ensure compliance with Withholding Tax (WHT) requirements, including calculation, declaration, and payment of WHT in accordance with local legislation.
- Ensure local statutory reporting processes are timely, accurate, and effective, providing meaningful interpretation of results for internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage month-end closing activities.
- Perform trial balance sense checks, including reconciliation of movements, nature, and aging of balances.
- Update mandatory statutory accounting registers.
- Prepare statutory financial statements and manage monthly tax compliance activities, including the calculation, submission, and payment of corporate income tax, VAT, excise duties, local taxes, and other mandatory periodic reports.
- Act as the first point of contact with tax authorities, ensuring the tax file remains accurate and free of potential debit balances; manage corrective filings, compensations, and other settlements when required.
- Support the annual audit process, ensuring timely completion and resolution or escalation of audit findings to the Romania Taxation Manager.
- Monitor, advise on, and correct (if necessary) the activities performed by the shared services company; manage compliance with the Service Level Agreement to meet statutory and managerial deadlines.
- Prepare and manage SOX controls related to VAT.
- Advise company departments on accounting and taxation matters within statutory responsibility.
- Monitor and implement legislative changes impacting statutory accounting and taxation.
- Review and approve agreements from a tax perspective.
- Complete ad-hoc requests to support company-level decision-making.
- Assist with the execution of finance and tax-related company projects.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives related to statutory accounting and taxation best practices.
- Ensure compliance with statutory accounting and taxation manuals, processes, and procedures, contributing to their enhancement with a strong focus on the control environment.
What are we looking for?
- University degree in Finance, Accounting or similar, Master’s degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in relevant finance positions – statutory accounting and taxation.
- Strong knowledge of Romanian statutory accounting and taxation.
- In-depth knowledge of financial software packages (SAP) and the classic Microsoft Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
- Clear and professional communication skills.
- Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multiple stakeholders.
- Proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
- Fluent in Romanian and English (both spoken and written).
