British American Tobacco Australia has an exciting opportunity for Assistant Commercial Finance Manager in BAT Sydney
The Assistant Commercial Finance Manager plays a role in supporting strategic and operational decision-making across the business. The position is responsible for assisting in the development and evaluation of cases, particularly those related to new commercial opportunities and customer agreement negotiations. The role also supports robust financial planning, marketing cost base management, and performance reporting. By delivering high-quality insights and maintaining strong financial controls, the role enables effective resource allocation and contributes to the company’s overall commercial success.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Business Case Development & Financial Planning
- Support the preparation and financial evaluation of cases, with a focus on new business opportunities and the renegotiation of customer agreements.
- Provide clear, data-driven recommendations to advise strategic decisions and enhance outcomes.
- Assist in the analyzing customer profitability to improve of commercial strategy.
Cost Base Management
- Support the Commercial Finance Manager in the end-to-end financial planning of Marketing Investments, including budgeting, forecasting, and target setting. Deliver robust performance insights and variance analysis to drive accountability and informed decision-making across the commercial function.
- Continuously monitor budget performance across functions, providing timely updates, variance analysis, and actionable insights to finance leadership and budget owners.
Reporting & Analytics
- Deliver high-quality, actionable insights to support effective resource allocation and marketing investment decisions.
- Lead the month-end close process for marketing cost centers, ensuring timely and accurate reporting in line with financial policies and governance standards.
- Manage internal and external audit processes related to marketing investments, ensuring full compliance with applicable financial controls.
- Partner with Shared services team to ensure seamless integration of financial operations, alignment on reporting, and continuous improvement.
What are we looking for?
- Degree educated ideally in commerce / accounting / finance, with any professional qualification certified (CA/ACCA/CIMA/CPA/MBA)
- Preferably at least 3 - 4 years of experience in similar role
- Experience in a similar dynamic operating environment – matrix cost base with multiple partners to handle
- Influencing and good interpersonal skills, people engagement and management skills
- Experience in strategic analysis, data analytics and business modelling, project planning and execution, commercial competence
- Ability to simplify sophisticated situations and synthesise, communicate and present complex information
- Insightful, comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty, proactive, collaborative and
- Familiar with SAP is an added advantage
- Attention to detail, diligent and resilient
