ROLE SUMMARY

What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?

To handle & implement sustainability initiatives within the Indirect category scope, ensuring alignment with global procurement strategy & corporate sustainability targets. The role focuses on delivering measurable environmental impact to accelerate our decarbonisation goals.

Key objectives include:

  • Implement Directs category-specific emissions reduction plans aligned with organizational sustainability goals.
  • Strengthen emissions glidepath.
  • Implement Deforestation plans aligned with organizational sustainability goals.
  • Expand and accelerate LCA, primary data, and product carbon footprint programme for Directs suppliers.
  • Support Global directs category team with supplier engagements during SRM reviews and supplier engagements to drive sustainability outcomes.
  • Drive early adoption of data driven, tech -enabled solutions to accelerate digital transformation in sustainability.

The role enables BAT’s sustainable ambition by driving actionable emissions reduction, building supplier and internal capability and ensuring compliance.

ROLE DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Document end-to-end Directs category primary data governance process. Establish and maintain supplier data management processes.
  • Deliver sustainability critical metrics related to Climate and Deforestation.
  • Supervise and report progress against agreed targets.
  • Collaborate with global category teams to accelerate capability-building initiatives for Directs category suppliers. Develop training and best-practice sharing programs.
  • Scale product carbon footprint measurement across Directs suppliers and drive primary data collection to improve accuracy and transparency.
  • Support Global Category teams in supplier engagements focused on scaling primary data collection.
  • Work closely with procurement functions, sustainability CoE, legal, finance, and operations and contribute to sustainability reporting and assurance processes.
  • Support benchmarking efforts against industry standards and continuously evaluate and improve internal sustainability practices.
  • Digital Transformation - Define Directs category specification needs for digital transformation, align with digital leads to plan and implement initiatives and support Digital Sustainability tower projects.
  • Perform Directs category self-health checks and ensure audit readiness and compliance with regulations.
  • Act as team champion for consolidating environmental performance data, prepare Sustainability tracking & monitoring, and communications for environmental bulletin

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE

ESSENTIAL

Experience Required

  • Proven experience in Procurement, Sustainability, or Operations within a global organization.
  • Understanding of ESG principles, procurement processes, and sustainability reporting frameworks.
  • Knowledge in procurement practices including category management and sourcing strategies.
  • Understanding of supplier climate programs and supplier enablement initiatives
  • Experience in strategic supplier relationship management (SRM) to drive sustainability objectives.
  • Extensive knowledge of supply markets, supplier capabilities, and competitor trends.
  • Advanced proficiency in data analysis to support sustainability in procurement.

Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required

  • Understanding of sustainability practices, frameworks, tools, and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of procurement principles, including category management and sourcing strategies.
  • Experience in managing risk, process governance, and ensuring audit compliance.
  • Experience in leading cross functional projects (end markets/ global)
  • Experience in conducting learning and development programs for internal and external partners.
  • Ability to work across markets and functions, encouraging cohesion and collaboration.
  • Speed and timely delivery of category plans aligned with sustainability objectives.
  • Strong data analytical capabilities for data-driven decision-making.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Skilled in developing and maintaining effective relationships across geographic boundaries.
  • Demonstrates agility and adaptability.
  • Passionate about delivering measurable results

Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required

  • Relevant Business /Engineering / Environment Science / Supply Chain qualifications.
