ROLE SUMMARY

What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?  

The Discovery Sourcing Manager, HP, is responsible for the deployment of the global Category Innovation strategy of HP Consumable COE in line with the R&D and I&F team requirements.  Scope of the Innovation strategy and implementation should include, but not limited to:

  • Category Innovation strategy development, refinement and refresh – providing a three year outlook
  • Drive Innovation with collaborating with new and current suppliers to deliver innovative technologies in line with the defined technology for the New Categories pipeline. The suppliers will include start-ups, scale-ups and established suppliers from around the globe.
  • Developing supplier led innovation platforms to support the longer-term Horizon 3 needs (5 years and beyond)
  • Manage innovation discovery and evaluation with the focus on Supplier sourcing selection, Commercial Excellence, IP and Compliance from conception to POP stage for Categories
  • Innovation and Industry trends and compliance reporting (incl. commercial risk management and contractual pipeline)
  • Key business stakeholders (R&D, Investments, LEX and Patents) management to ensure the Innovation strategy and implementation effectiveness.
  • Strong collaboration with wider global BAT teams to deliver Innovation Initiatives
  • Innovation partner supplier relationship management
  • Peer group and external market network map build

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Collaborate with New Categories R&D on the supplier requirements for the innovation technology blocks and defining specification requirements
  • Lead the Discover RFI/RFP process and collaborate across functions to pinpoint and secure the right suppliers for development
  • Ensure new to BAT technology sourcing activities and supplier engagements align with BAT processes and policies.
  • Drive contract negotiations, specifically Evaluation Agreements and Joint Development Agreements
  • Drive the review of Contractual Project Briefs and development cost verification & negotiations
  • Deliver global supplier management with new to BAT technology companies including startups, scale ups and multinationals
  • Provide market and technology insight (including competitors tear down) to the Category Manager to support in the delivery of the Innovation Technology Blocks Category Strategy
  • Drive the preferred supplier strategy per technology block and collaborate with the CoE Sourcing Managers in line with commercial and cost-saving targets and governance requirements
  • Support the tracking, and reporting on the Innovation performance, plan implementation and critical metrics
  • Build strong supplier base relationships and handle negotiation and supplier selection within the framework of the category strategies and sourcing strategies.
  • Tech Blocks – Procurement POC; lead the management of all Tech Blocks in HP consumable COE, ensuring contractual rigor, governance rigor and ensuring all are aligned with Innovation strategy. Managing through the Procurement HP CoEs, and reporting via the TB Dashboard 
  • Innovation Strategy – Procurement POC; partnering with I&F, PLM and Patents, build the Innovation Strategy for HP consumable COE; mapping the Jobs To Be Done (JTBD), prioritization of which areas to target, and managing this through Tech Block projects 
  • Delta Tech – Procurement POC; Lead on the implementation of HP consumable COE on T2 Delta Tech innovation platform with R&D, suppliers and category COE GSM.  

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE

ESSENTIAL

Experience Required

  • Comprehensive knowledge of innovation processes, supplier capabilities and competitor activity and trends
  • Understanding of Intellectual Property ownership and contractual implications advantageous
  • Detailed knowledge of supply market, supplier capabilities and competitor activity, and expected trends at a geographic / global level
  • In-depth category knowledge and proven capability of applying supplier management techniques to deliver valiuable contribution benefits in addition to contracted benefits
  • Full understanding of the category total cost model, cost drivers and all factors needed to ensure a robust agreement for BAT
  • Experience in handling complex global and area projects and programmes to improve performance and deliver service
  • Sound knowledge of corporate regulations and legislation to ensure the creation of effective group contract
  • Experience in handling large scale, cross-country projects and programs to improve performance and deliver service

Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required

  • An interest in exploring new technology and understanding technology application across different platforms and categories
  • A technical approach coupled with a “can-do” demeanour and ability to understand and explain technical issues to non-technical individuals
  • Knowledge of the Category including the external marketplace in NC products, key drivers and levers, supply base and balance of power, supplier capabilities and trends
  • Expertise in negotiation skills and influencing skills: able to influence business partners and suppliers as well as the ability to be assertive if required to ensure compliance to contract

Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant area
  • CIPS Corporate Diploma in Purchasing and/or membership of The Chartered Institute for Purchasing and Supply or equivalent country qualification or membership would be an advantage
