ROLE SUMMARY

What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?

The role of the Regional Sustainability Deployment Mgr. is to drive the sustainability strategy, policies & standards and implementation across the Region providing thought leadership, counsel, advice and support to the End Markets DRBU Sustainability Managers and Global Sustainability Teams, that enables the seamless execution, in order to ensure that BAT Group protects its corporate reputation, license to operate and access to resources, and recognized as one of the most advanced in terms of sustainability standards and processes.

The role is also jointly responsible for identifying Sustainability opportunities across the region, ensuring successful delivery of committed project results on time, proactively driving new initiatives and technical solutions, and highlighting key risks and issues. This is to be supported by pro-active scouting of new technologies outside of BAT and driving engagement with new technology suppliers, engage with experts across industries, academic, governmental, and non-governmental institutions, benchmarking capabilities and understanding of environment & sustainability developments.

The Regional Sustainability Deployment Manager is also responsible for driving the regional implementation of digital reporting solutions including development of new approaches to analyze data and establishing new metrics within reporting system.

The Regional Sustainability Deployment Manager role is also accountable to design learning programs based on capabilities gap assessment and collaboration with experts from other industries as well as to support local teams with expertise in periods of audits and certifications.

The role provides leadership of the sustainability strategy, policies and standards and drives performance across the Region in support of Global targets&

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Comprehensively understands the business context, including the commercial, political, and cultural attributes, that informs the Regional Sustainability agenda and the appropriate approach to delivery and engagement.
  • Drive ESG performance across the Regional scope ensuring delivery against corporate commitments for BAT Operations and wider value chain in line with Organizational Ambition 2050.
  • Provides leadership in identifying strategic sustainability opportunities.
  • To guarantee all the initiatives & journey maps are aligned with the Glidepaths.
  • Support CapEx demand, alignment and prioritization, and the Menu Cards consolidation
  • In line with group ambition development Regional deployment plans for new capabilities (Standardization and alignment) whilst optimizing cost and environmental performance
  • Management of sustainability performance data KPIs and associated reporting process. This includes the monthly  and quarterly analysis, investigation and interpretation of the key parameters and preparation of relevant reports.
  • Develop leading edge sustainability capabilities and solutions for business activities and ensure their implementation throughout the Region through the Centre of excellence.
  • Commit on ensuring Compliance Assessments are successfully achieved within the DRBU, including Health & Safety
  • Engage with experts across industries, academic, governmental, and non-governmental institutions in developing internal organizational expertise knowledge, benchmarking capabilities, and understanding of environment & sustainability developments.
  • Drives full compliance of BAT business across the Region to BAT EH&S Policy
  • Ensure all existing and potential threats to the end markets, arising from environmental impacts and Health & Safety risks are identified, analyzed, and managed.
  • As a lead member and decision maker within Regional Sustainability Team contributes to the development of the sustainability policies, strategies and standards which enable BAT Strategy
  • Makes and/or advises on commercial decisions that impact positively on both short-and medium-term bottom-line results within the Region.
  • Ensures appropriate level of sustainability management system integration.
  • Drive Regional ESG performance and be the SPOC for all Regional ESG related topics.
  • Lead the ESG APMEA team, build capability and deploy training to drive upskilling.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE

ESSENTIAL

Experience Required

  • Experience in Operations functions within ESG, Manufacturing and/or Supply Chain
  • Experience leading a team to successfully deliver business goals in an international company.
  • Delivered wide scale and complex change programs.
  • Knowledge of international regulations, the sustainable development agenda, and external engagement practices.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety management.
  • Understanding of Sustainability Governance process
  • Understanding of audit methodology or experience of working in an audit role

Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required

  • Strong business acumen and commercial awareness
  • The ability to think and operate strategically at a Regional level
  • Ability to extract meaning and principles from past experiences and leveraging those when facing a new situation
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills; and be able to motivate, and inspire teams (diverse ethnicity, management/non-management) which are dispersed across the geographic unit.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and be able to influence key stakeholders (both internal and external) to own and drive the implementation of sustainability strategy, and delivery of the annual plan
  • The ability to develop and maintain effective business partnerships and relationships working across functions and geographic boundaries
  • Ability to navigate through uncertain and ambiguous environment
  • High level of adaptability to different ideas, others’ opinions, and alternative ways of doing things.

Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, preferable in Environmental, Manufacturing or Supply Chain
  • Health & Safety skills traini
