British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Packaging Technologist in Southampton
What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?
This role will support the digital evolution of packaging development by assisting in the adoption of digital tools, systems, and data‑driven workflows
What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organization?
This role directly improves the Packaging Development team’s efficiency and accuracy by supporting the implementation of digital tools, improving data quality, and enabling smoother, more consistent workflows across day‑to‑day packaging activities
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Support the implementation of digital tools and systems for packaging R&D
- Own digital material libraries
- Assist in introducing AI, automation, and analytics workflows, helping to improve concept creation, tolerance checks, prototyping efficiency, and early issue identification.
- Contribute to capability building within the Packaging team, learning digital tools and supporting others in adopting systems, data‑driven workflows, and basic AI‑enabled engineering practices.
- Own digital dashboards and reporting, contributing to visibility of project progress, resource planning, and technical performance metrics.
- Support digital packaging specification management and own alignment with packaging category teams
What are we looking for?
Experience Required
- Experience in packaging development across multiple categories, as well as experience with engineering software, such as CAD/CAE platforms, simulation tools, power BI etc
Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required
- Experience in PLM/Specification Systems
- Knowledge of AI/ML-driven engineering tools, such as generative design, predictive modelling, tolerance automation, and digital simulation workflows.
- Data capability and understanding of analytics tools (Power BI, Minitab etc).
- Understanding of digital lab workflows, digital test methods, and structured engineering data capture
- Strong curiosity and analytical perspective
- Good collaboration and communication skills
Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required
- Engineering/Material science-based degree
