What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?
The Compliance Analyst – Quality Assurance role involves assuring compliance by carrying out QA reviews within key Legal Compliance areas. This includes assessing the construction and operational efficiency of controls, detecting gaps, and helping with remediation and ongoing progress.
The position demands hands-on background in compliance, audit, risk, or assurance, paired with intermediate proficiency in Power BI and Excel to examine data, develop dashboards, and contribute to evidence-based QA conclusions. Data analytics tools function as resources to improve assurance coverage and insight, not as goals in themselves.
This role is not a data science or pure analytics position. Strong compliance judgment and assurance approach are essential. The role holder is encouraged to:

Within the 2nd Line of Defence, the position delivers independent assurance and challenge on how efficiently Legal Compliance controls are managed by the 1st Line of Defence, focusing primarily on:
- Anti-Financial Crime (AFC / TPAFC)
- Gifts and Hospitality (G&H)
- Policy Management
By combining QA expertise with practical data analytics, the role improves transparency, consistency, and oversight, enabling informed decision-making and reinforcing BAT’s Standards of Business Conduct.
Compliance Quality Assurance (Core Focus)
- Perform Quality Assurance assessments across Legal Compliance areas, including:
- Third Party Anti-Financial Crime (TPAFC) risk assessments
- Policy Management controls
- Gifts & Entertainment (G&E) processes
- Assess control build and operational efficiency, identifying weaknesses, gaps, and inconsistencies.
- Apply professional judgment to distinguish between control failures, process issues, and execution gaps.
- Work with 1st and 2nd Line teams (SME’s) to validate findings, agree remediation actions, and define preventive measures.
- Track remediation actions to closure and bring up delays or non-compliance where required.
Data Reporting (Enabler)
- Build, maintain, and improve Power BI dashboards to support QA reviews, issue tracking, and compliance monitoring.
- Use Excel (intermediate level) to analyze datasets, perform reconciliations, trend analysis, and QA sampling.
- Translate data outputs into clear, practical QA insights and recommendations for collaborators.
- Support compliance-wide reporting to track important data, trends, and remediation progress.
Process Improvement & Stakeholder Engagement
- Present QA results, insights, and recommendations to Compliance SMEs in 2nd LoD team, 1st Line teams, and BI&C (Compliance senior management).
- Contribute to training or knowledge-sharing sessions related to AFC, G&E, and Policy Management.
- Participate in system UATs and improvement reviews.
- Support automation or workflow improvements (e.g. Power Automate, Power Apps) where appropriate, in collaboration with relevant teams.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE
ESSENTIAL
Experience Required
- Minimum 3–5 years’ practical experience in compliance, audit, risk, or assurance roles, including direct participation in control reviews, QA, internal audit, or monitoring activities.
- Experience working in regulated or controlled environments (e.g. AFC/AML, third-party risk, KYC/KYS, policy compliance).
- Practical experience using Power BI to build and maintain dashboards (intermediate level).
- Solid practical experience with Excel for analysis and assurance activities (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations; macros are a plus).
- Experience interpreting data to support assurance conclusions and control assessments.
- Proven ability to engage with multiple collaborators across functions and regions.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex findings..
Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required
- Intermediate Power BI skills (data modeling, report and dashboard creation).
- Intermediate Excel skills for analysis and QA support.
- Strong analytical approach with attention to detail and control efficiency.
- Ability to produce structured QA reports and presentations for senior collaborators.
- Good organizational, documentation, and follow-up skills.
