British American Tobacco Samoa has an exciting opportunity for a Head of Finance in Apia!
British American Tobacco Samoa is seeking a commercially astute, strategic, and people-focused finance leader to join the business as Head of Finance. Reporting to the General Manager, this role will lead the Finance function in Samoa and play a critical role in driving business performance, financial governance, strategic delivery, and organizational leadership. The successful candidate will influence key business decisions, strengthen financial discipline, and support the continued sustainability and growth of BAT Samoa.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop and deliver key operating targets, including underlying operating profit and cash flow.
- Drive integrated financial performance management processes that challenge and support the business to deliver value.
- Lead selected strategic projects in Samoa and across the Cluster.
- Drive automation and simplification within the Finance function to deliver efficient back-office services.
- Review local laws, excise requirements, compliance evidence, and gaps, ensuring appropriate records are maintained.
- Ensure SOP reviews are completed and updated in line with local law and Group policies.
- Lead the development and implementation of an excise lobbying strategy that supports the sustainability of BAT’s business model in Samoa.
- Work effectively with internal and external stakeholders to support robust commercial and cross-functional outcomes.
- Establish clear leadership priorities for self and direct reports, and coach and develop the Finance team, role modelling strong leadership behaviors. Build a culture that enables employees to contribute meaningfully to organizational goals, and support attraction, retention, and development of Finance talent, including contribution to Area talent processes.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to Management and teams to strengthen cross-functional delivery, and actively support and lead the BAT Samoa Strategic Leadership Journey.
Qualifications and Essential Attributes:
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- A professional accountancy qualification such as CA, ACCA, CIMA, CR or CPA.
- At least 5-10 years’ experience in a global FMCG or similarly dynamic operating environment, including a minimum of 5 years in a senior finance leadership role.
- Strong commercial and strategic thinking capability.
- Sound knowledge of corporate financial practices and BAT financial governance requirements.
- Good understanding of the tobacco business, including operations, marketing, and sales.
- Experience engaging with external stakeholders.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, coaching, and influencing skills.
- Strong English communication skills; local or regional language capability is desirable where required.
