What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?
- The prime function of this role is to coordinate Customer order fulfilment and all warehouse related activities in the Depot.
- To constantly challenge and review the Route Planning for the customers to ensure OTIF
- The role is accountable for and manage Compliance at the depot for Secondary Supply Chain.
- The Logistics Controller position is to ensure that all aspects of the Onsite Warehouse Logistics processes and systems as executed by the Logistics Service Provider (3PL) and BAT Logistics staff are compliant with internal controls and statutory requirements.
- To act as a single point of contact regarding stock movements in the warehouse within BATSA.

1. Warehouse Management (Primary Focus)
- Support daily warehouse operations including receiving, put away, picking, dispatch, and stock handling.
- Verify warehouse documentation (GRNs, picking slips, dispatch notes).
- Check orders in SAP and ensure bulk picks match customer requirements.
- Print invoices, labels, and picking documents for daily operations.
- Assist with stock counts (daily, weekly, month end) and report discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate warehouse records in line with BAT best practices, SOX, and local regulations.
- Ensure warehouse compliance with EHS, 5S, pest control, OHS Act, and security protocols.
- Monitor returns, LOBs (Left on Board), and damaged or obsolete stock.
2. Inventory & Stock Control
- Ensure all stock movements are captured correctly in SAP (IM & WM modules).
- Support reconciliation of physical vs. system stock and escalate variances.
- Assist in managing blocked stock, customer returns, and obsolete inventory.
- Help resolve failed IDOCs and SAP transaction issues.
3. Secondary Supply Chain Support
- Assist in managing 3PL warehouse and transport activities at the depot.
- Stand-in DOA for Sr. Logistics Controller where not available
- Support tracking and monitoring of supplier service levels (e.g., OTIF).
- Maintain documentation required for customs, excise, and compliance.
- Help monitor warehousing and transport costs and support cost saving initiatives.
5. Reporting & Administration
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly depot reports.
- Maintain accurate records for EHS, compliance, warehouse activities, and stock.
- Participate in local and national DDS meetings.
- Support Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and Business Impact Analysis (BIA) updates.
6. Continuous Improvement & Customer Service
- Promote a culture of root-cause analysis and continuous improvement.
- Assist in depot projects aimed at reducing logistics costs or improving efficiency.
- Maintain strong working relationships with 3PLs, auditors, government bodies, and internal functions.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE
ESSENTIAL
Experience Required
Knowledge/Qualifications:
- Matric / Grade 12 or 3 years plus experience in a Logistics/Material Planning/Warehouse management environment
- Tertiary qualification in Logistics with 2-5 years’ experience
- Local Materials Planning- Preferably Multiple markets
- Knowledge of EH&S and Pest Management Principles
- Good knowledge of relevant computer systems & programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint,etc.)
- Good level of SAP understanding (IM & Warehouse management module experience)
- Good knowledge of Easy Clear
- Knowledge of the statutory requirements regarding Excise and Customs
